Project Eternity - A Crowd-Funded RPG by Obsidian Entertainment
Josh Sawyer of Obsidian Entertainment was kind enough to respond to a questionnaire interview that I sent him on Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming crowd-funded PC-only RPG, Project Eternity. The first part of the interview focuses on design and mechanics, the second part of the interview are non-Project Eternity related questions, featuring one from
Aaron Patel (A.P) and
Micah Beaumont (Prawny).
The interview is located on the second page of this article, I thought since many people here will probably not know much about Project Eternity many of the questions that I ask on the second page may not make sense out of context. So feel free to skip to the second page if you just want to read the interview, but for those interested here is some general information about the game.
Project Eternity is a roleplaying game being developed by Obsidian Entertainment in the much loved style of the Infinity Engine games (i.e. Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment). The intent of the developers is to
combine the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment. The camera view will be isometric, to support strategic, party-based combat for a party of up to 6 members. The combat style will be real-time with pause, but we are told that there will be a number of options to go through the game with very little combat, if that’s what you prefer.
There is a very comprehensive thread over at
Sorcerer's Place with all of the current information about the game.
Link to the Kickstarter Campaign
For those who missed out on the Kickstarter campaign,
Paypal payment options are open for a limited time. All of the Kickstarter tiers are still available, so if you would like to buy the game for as little as $25 (might be $30 or 35 when it comes out) or are interested in the limited run of boxed copies, now is your chance, just click on the link and the paypal links are on the right of the Eternity page.
Obsidian Entertainment raised over $4.1 Million Dollars from Kickstarter and Paypal to fund the game.
This is an in-game demo screenshot of the first pre-rendered background for the game, which is part of a larger area. The Backgrounds will be 2D images pre-rendered from 3D scenes and painted over by an artist. Areas will contain flipbook and 3D animations over the top of the background, Obsidian have said they will animate the waterfall and the stream in this image along with other environmental effects.
