[p]Frank is 20 and lives in the picturesque surf town of Torquay, in Victoria. From simple origins, he quickly rose to be a consistent overachiever in some the worlds top clans, with much success over the last few years. He's a humble champion, who just wants to see the XBL community get bigger and better.
How did you get involved in games, before competitive?
Well I got a Nintendo 64 when it came out all those years ago and use to play 4 players split screen Golden Eye with my mates. That pretty much hooked me on games.
How long have you been on XBL?
Well I got myself an Xbox about 2 1/2 years ago after I did a bad ankle injury surfing. Since I'm a carpenter I couldn't go to work or do much at all for that matter. So I got myself a XBL subscription and it all started there. Let's be honest Xbox is fucking addictive.
What do you like about it?
It's so easy to use; you just plug in and play no hassles. Also the people you meet. I have met some great people online and would even like to catch up with them IRL.
How long have you been around competitive?
I have been playing competitive for about 2 years now. I started on CoD 3. I use to play ranked matches when I came home from work and my true skill in the game got fairly high. One free for all I won was against two top players from America who happened to be in top 5 GameBattles clans. I received a message asking if I would like to trial for Th3 (Th3 Honourable Executioners) I had no idea who they where at the time. Well I trialed with them in a few matches and faired well against top teams. This pretty much was the start of competitive gaming for me.
What do you think about the Aus Xbox community?
Coming from CoD 3 where you could play against the world with little to no lag. My first real contact with the AuS community was at the start of CoD 4 and I was really disappointed to begin with because of the lack of a decent ladder. But with GotGames and CyberGamer ladders, things are starting to look really good. We still have a long way to go to catch up with the rest of the world but we are getting there.
What are some of the teams you have been involved with and experienced?
Well on CoD 3 I was involved in 2 great teams Th3 and Hype Brothers which where both in the top 5 of GameBattles. Both these teams had players who have gone on to become Pro CoD 4 players. I think i learnt a lot from them. Coming to CoD 4 I joined up with KAE and got to know those guys really well. With them we took out the GoSolid online TDM tournament beating MLC in the Semi's in a hard fought match and DTP in the final. 1000-480 (get owned MORPO).
GG season 1 i played for KAE and there was a lot of expectation on us going 11-0 into the round robin. We ended up finishing 5th in pro but gave 1SK and MLC some great matches which could have gone either way. GG S2 i was asked if i would like to come play for iMLC. I got along with the MLC boys well so i agreed. We ended up taking out the Inter that season beating pR in the final.
So that brings us to your current standing?
Yeah, I'm back with KAE just having some fun on WaW where we just won the CG Inter for WaW.
Ever been to a LAN/ would you go?
I actually haven't been to a LAN yet. I have previously planned to attend them but things have clashed. I would definatly attend a LAN such as Game1 or something along those lines. LAN's are the 1 major thing that the AuS Xbox community is lacking at the moment.
What's the problem then?
Are there LAN's? That's the first thing that is wrong, if there are LAN' happening they clearly are not advertising them in the right area's. People don't know there even happening!! I'm sure people would make the effort to attend LAN's if there was a well organised event, which was advertised with prize money up for grabs.
Definitely. What do you get up to outside gaming?
Well I have just finished my Building apprenticeship and have just started out on my own as a Carpenter. My sport/hobby is Surfing and I try to get at least 1 surf in a day. Other then that just the normal, going out on the Weekends with your mates, drinking and trying to pick up ladies.
What other games do you play?
Lately I have been playing a bit of Halo Wars and have even jumped on the PC to play some StarCraft. I go through different stages but the CoD series is by far the best games i have played.
What are your thoughts about CyberGamer?
Well at first I was skeptical thinking that it was just going to split the community up even more but it has surprised me. It has actually brought the community together more and if it keeps going the way it is it will be the main place for Xbox gamers. Personally I would like to see GG and CG work together to some up with a really good system. For example CG has the ladders and GG being the invitational or something along those lines. Good work though CyberGamer.
What's your current team/s what are you trying to achieve
Well currently I am 1 of leaders of KAE. I have been with these guys for a long time now but lately the guys aren't on as much and don't take gaming too seriously. They still rape when they play but there are no strats or real commitment to anything.
For GotGames, I'm playing with Peace, Love and Ecstasy. Which is a team of great players from range of old teams who don't play anymore. Should be a fun season nothing too serious just a good bunch of guys. So all in all I'm waiting for the CoD 6 to come out and we will see what happens.
What games are you interested that are coming soon?
Call of Duty MW 2. This game could be the kick start of gaming in Australia. Can't wait for this game.
What would happen to the community if COD6 isn't what people expect?
I actually don't know about myself but it would be a hard hit for the Aussie Community. With the early hype surrounding this game it has the potential of CoD 4 without the competition from other big name games like GOW and Halo (as far as I know). Also we now have 2 good competive gaming sites up where the majority of the community is located; at the start of CoD 4 we lacked this. So if the game fails it will be a big setback for us as a community I feel. Saying that though I think the game will be a massive success. Infinity Ward has a good record when it comes to making a good CoD game they seem to get it right. Hopefully they make the game LAN friendly and competive friendly.
Who's the best CoD 4 team out now?
Well you can't go past Uprising winning both CG and GG.
Who's the best player for CoD 4?
Best players are hard to pick but Southside, Grunt Rebellion and CEENA have to be the best I have played.
You have a couple of montages out, what's it like making them?
Well I bought a cap Card because I saw a few montages on Youtube and thought I would give it a go. I recorded 1 day and realised how much work it takes to make a montage and pretty much just threw a few clips together and put it on Youtube. The result was a pretty bad first montage. As for my most recent 1, I had recorded all of KAE matches on CyberGamer to prevent any disputes occurring and 1 Sunday I was hung-over and decided to make use of all the footage that was sitting on my computer. So whipped up another quick montage, that was only marginally better then my first. People seem to enjoy watching them though so this season im going to put a little bit of effort into it and see if I can make a decent one for everyone.
