[p]Jake is 17, and his final year at school in Manly NSW is flying by. He's a skilled casual gamer with an amazing natural talent and relaxed attitude, something that wouldn't seem to match in this evolving game environment. He's apart of a competitive community where many players rely on technological assists and exploiting every avenue to make them great. Players like Jake are rare; he keeps it simple, just playing games as a source of fun like most of us used to. Maybe that's the key to his success, and maybe we could all take it a little less serious sometimes.
Tell me about your gaming experience before XBL?
Well I started when I was 5 years old. I received a Nintendo 64 for my birthday, and was possibly the best Diddy Kong racer ever. I still remember going over to my brother's friend's houses and helping them with races they couldn't finish. My brother bought the original Xbox shortly after its release and I was one of those annoying people who play your console for the first time and beat you, you all know the type. Originally I just played games like Halo, well until all my friends refused to play against me because I raped them too hard.
You then progressed to the 360 and competitive play?
After buying my Xbox 360 solely for halo 3 and using my 1-month XBL subscription, I became good friends with a guy called xAngelMakerx, who taught me all about XBL raging. He convinced me to buy call of duty 4, and got me started in competitive gaming through the clan x88x. I have many fond memories of that clan; a lot of top players have come out of it like Ziggy, AussieBlake, Kunde, Nuggets. Eventually we reached rank one on AXB, I know right! But like many clans, things fell apart and it ended.
After the split, I, Deano, Kunde and Nuggets made a clan, which later split up into two clans; ATF that was later renamed Devious. I ended up in AC with Deano. After a while we had some line-up changes and renamed to /</<. We had a successful season on Got Games and ended up coming 3rd.
You had a bit of trouble at the end of /</<, and the team was splitting again, tell us about that?
We split up because Ado and Blake went on to bigger and better things. This left me considering giving up competitive gaming, but I got an offer from Pookebab to join Velocity. I accepted and was trying to cut back on gaming and only playing when I could. However, my addictive personality and competitive nature lead me to play every scrim and clan match possible, now here I am a captain of pR.
What are some achievements over that time?
Always the inter place on GotGames, 3rd place for /</<. Then I was apart of pR winning CGiS1, runners up GGiS2 in pR and semi-finalists in that joke of a CG season 2, lol.
Some people don't know you had the worst gaming setup in Aus, is this still the case?
Yes this is true, a 31 cm Standard def TV with one speaker, and recently bought a wireless microphone after spending 2 seasons of GG listening to voices through my TV. After working at woollies, well actually bludging at woolies for 2 years and saving up money, I was presented the opportunity to upgrade my setup or buy a fully sick wogbox. I chose the latter lol its hektik uleh. Although I may be inheriting my brothers 51cm TV soon!
Who are some of the best players from your time on XBL?
Wow way too many to mention from the past, I started playing competitive CoD in January last year, back then I didn't know any of the good players. It wasn't until I signed up on got games in about March that I found out what good really was. My first ever GG match was against KAE and boy did we get a shock. I think it was like 11-2, first time I ever played with Billabong Bum, but still have nightmares of him ripping us up with the scope.
Who are some of the skilled guys you've played against?
Two players I must say that have always stood out for me have to be THE HAWK 224 and Poppydean. Right now, im liking Psychot1c au55ie and Troyboys form, but cant go past the crazy Craybowl!
What do you think about cod5?
Cod 5 is a half decent game with the worst bullet registry off all time; I swear it makes me rage so hard. Taken seriously with the CG rules it's actually not a half bad game. I don't take it to serious, and just made a CoD 5 team with my CoD 4 mates the other day.
What you think about CyberGamer?
CyberGamer is a sicko website, most people on here think im a f'wit because I basically start flame wars with random's and make fun of peoples names. I even remember making number one on some guy most hated list. Doesn't matter that I have no idea who he was. This is one of the things I love about this site. I bet, like Kramer says, that if we all met up in real life, shit would be very different.
What do you think about the current XBL Community?
Its going alright, but im sick of all these CoD 5 noobs thinking they're top shit. I can't wait till CoD 6 comes out and some of the ancients come back, it's disappointing, but the spark also seems to have gone out of CoD 4. I know for a fact that Protocol is lacking motivation because of the huge increase in random noob teams near the top of the ladder. Nowadays the best teams are all the randy noob teams who put lots of time and effort in to cod or buy their players *cough* hehehehe. Can't wait till the old teams come back and we have to actually put in an effort again.
Modern Warfare 2 is going to be huge, hopefully delivers, what do you think?
Cod 6 is definitely on the cards, when it comes out ill have finished school and have a lot of spare time. Although a few weeks after it comes out ill be up at schoolies, random sex much? and when I come back I don't plan on having great coordination for the next 2-3 months, on that note hit me up if your heading up to schoolies second week in gold coast ill grab a beer with ya.
What do you do when not playing games?
More like, what don't I do when im not playing games. Well most afternoon's ill drive around being a tool with my friends, keeps us amused. I work at Woolworth's, where I check out the chicks, im basically a manager these days, I don't really do much basically pack cigarettes and drinks On that note, people can you please refrain from using green bags they are a bastard to pack and there will be a bin to recycle your plastic bags at every Woolworth's. Im sure I've just done some checkout chicks in your areas a favor right there. Being in year 12 there is a lot of 18ths on at the moments that are keeping me amused.
You mentioned your WogBox before, how is the car going?
Funny story actually, I wrote it off the other night, lol piece of shit. It was a really nice car but it had some deep internal issues. Recently the engine shat itself and all the valves got bent-that set me back $1800. Then the other night im coming home from work going through a round about and, surprise surprise the steering rack fails. WOOO oh well I got a $1600 insurance payout and was basically enough to pay off the engine damage, but I had fun with the old girl she went alright. Right now im saving up for a Twin Cam Corolla, they go alright and just wont die.
I get the feeling you might be moving on soon, how long will you be playing games in general and competitive then in the future, now you're in such a busy time of your life?
To be honest, I could not tell you. I think once I turn 18, you will probably rarely see me online. But I enjoy clan matches and have made some good friends in pR, so who knows.
Your known for joking around, what's some of the stuff you do?
I love making fun of people's names and saying the exact opposite. I even had a list in my bio at one stage, e.g. womankind79, ametuerhizle, twogoodreasons, THE DORK 224, troygirl x, doesnt thinkscope and also changing pretty much anyone I play in pubs name around and/or asking them if they are a homosexual.
You were also involved in the Youtube video: Zombies Everywhere, tell u about that? There was a bit of controversy if I recall.
After finding out of some random American how to do zombies, Myself, Nirvana, Ado and Blake were having fun with it. We thought it would be funny to get Dallapro to make a video of us all zombie dancing but, Dallapro decided to take our zombies and make some gay video about zombies *shakes fist*
What's some of the funnier things you've done?
The funniest night I can remember on Xbox, was 3am in the morning and Myself, Nirvana and Aussie Dynamite (and psychotic au55ie but I didn't really know him then) and 2 other random's went around in American rooms all hiding at the same bomb site and playing dead then when they went for the plant wed all plant claymores on them... seriously the FUNNIEST shit ever they all got so confused when they saw 6 people all of a sudden stand up and plant 12 claymores on them. Also got to love the days were we'd all sit in parties and listen to swan and SJ prank call people; I swear some of the funniest shit ever.
Sounds awesome, anyway thanks for the interview Jake, and best of luck for the future.
Cheers Ametuerhizle, and a big shoutout to Pookebab, Ryano and the rest of the pR boys.
