1) I've uninstalled Nvidia's firewall and Active Armor software
2) Then I updated nForce without installing the Firewall component.
3) However it still freezes when I join a server.

ah. I have installed the Nvidia firewall and active armour. What would be the best way to uninstall them?
Should I uninstall them via control panel, then update the drivers?

Hi,
I forgot the link to the nForce drivers. Here it is: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.23.html

Hi,
If the crash is with Punkbuster servers, please contact Punkbuster's support directly. They will be able to help you in more detail with their anti-cheat software.
I have seen this issue on Nvidia chipsets.
Make sure you have the latest nForce chipset drivers and DO NOT install Nvidia's firewall or Active Armor software. That seems to be the cause of the issue in certain cases.

Sorry, I mistyped my previous post
1) I can connect to a NON PB server. It doesn't crash, however I am still getting around 30 FPS compared to the normal hundred.
2)On a PB server, as soon as the loading screen passes (when connecting to the map) and the screen changes to the team/class selection screen, then it freezes.
3) The whole game freezes, there is no error message.
4) I downloaded PBSETUP and updated PB for cod4. Still no result. Are there any other PB utilities that can fix this?
----------------------
In summary i CAN connect to a NON PB server (however, still experience fps lag). I CANT play a PB SERVER (as the game and the entire computer freezes as soon as I join the game).

Response (Nick Bee) 03/27/2009 10:12 PM
Hi,
So the game plays fine on Punkbuster servers? Just slow? Are you sure you have the same settings in singleplayer and multiplayer? They do not share the same configuration.

Hi Kai,
Can you try connecting to a NON Punkbuster server? Does it still crash on non Punkbuster servers? How long does it take to crash? Are there any error messages?

Customer 03/27/2009 08:41 PM
That picture wast't the updated version.
I have now fixed this.
I have now directed the port forwarding to the computers IP address.
However, it is still freezing, I believe that it is something within the computer- seeing as though it has worked before, I think it is a software issue; but that is your job, to assist me to fix this.
Thanks,
Kai

Hi,
The picture of your "port forwarding" is not valid and that wouldn't work for any game. You didn't direct the port to your computer's IP address.
----------------------------------------
Customer 03/27/2009 08:02 PM
did you even read my message mate?
I have opened up my ports. Ive also tested to see if they're open using software, HOWEVER it still crashes!
----------------------------------------
Response (Nick Bee) 03/27/2009 06:37 PM
Hi,
Activision does not support nor do we provide assistance with configuring routers. You can try looking at www.portforward.com for further assistance or contact the router manufacturer.
If you do not point those ports to your computer's IP address. The port forwarding is not configured properly.

Customer 03/27/2009 05:21 PM
I've successfully opened the three ports. However, when I join a server it still crashes! Ive also forgot to mention that Im getting a bad frame rate in single player as well.
When i join a server the entire computer freezes and I can hear a 1 second loop of in game sound.
I am very tired of having to restart the computer every time as before I reformatted the computer, everything worked fine!

The instructions for setting up port forwarding varies by router so you will need to contact your routers manufacturer for specific instructions on how to do this.

Just when I input the data, there are some unclear things that I have to input.
Please Copy and Paste the following just so I can correct open this port:
1. Description: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Inbound port: xxxxx-xxxxx
3. Type: TCP/UDP/BOTH
4. Private IP address: 192.168.2.xxx
5. Private port: xxxxx-xxxxx
I have enclosed a screen shot so you know what I'm talking about. the 'x' is the maximum number of characters you can input in the form.
Thank you very much and I'm looking forward to the assistance.

Thank you for contacting Activision Customer Support. How are you connected to the Internet? Are you connected through a router? If you are connected to a router then you may want to enable port forwarding to your PC.
The game uses the following ports:
UDP: 3074, 28960
TCP: 28960
The instructions for setting up port forwarding varies by router so you will need to contact your routers manufacturer for specific instructions on how to do this. We thank you for your patience and support.

Yes. single player works fine however multiplayer doesn't.
Disabled my firewall and my other pieces of anti-virus software. Still no result.

Response (Nick Bee) 03/25/2009 11:01 PM
Hi,
Singleplayer works properly? Single and multi have different configuration menus. Try disabling your firewall and antivirius program before starting the multiplayer game.

Customer 03/25/2009 10:56 PM
1) Yes, I am an administrator.
2) just multiplayer. Just when I join a server. The screen freezes. However I can hear the sound ambiance on the map. I tried reinstalling cod on the D and even C drive.

Response (Nick Bee) 03/25/2009 09:26 PM
Hi,
Do you have administrator access on your computer?
Does this happen in single and multi, or just multi?

1) I have run the video driver update again, still the same problem.
2)I am using a completely new profile (on cod4)
----------------------------------------
Response (Nick Bee) 03/25/2009 03:20 PM
Hi,
Try running the driver install again. You should not get nv4_disp.dll randomly from the internet. That may not be the correct dll version.
Are you using the same profile as you had before?
----------------------------------------
Customer 03/25/2009 02:39 PM
Uploaded. However, during the updating of the video drivers, for some reason the nv4_disp.dll file didnt install. I found the .dll on the net and downloaded it. here is the new dxdiag

Response (Nick Bee) 03/25/2009 01:26 PM
Hi,
Can you provide an updated dxdiag report showing the updated drivers? The latest one you attached still shows the old drivers.

Just tried the game. It still crashes when I join a server.

please disregard the previous question. I have managed to fix my display drivers. My res. is fixed.

I configured msStartup smoothly.
However, after updating the video card drivers, my screen resolution cannot change. It's stuck on 640x480. when I change the screen flickers and it doesn't change. What is happening?!?!?!?!?!
Here's a dxdiag
----------------------------------------
Customer 03/25/2009 12:53 AM
okay. downloading now.
once installed, and configured startup ill attach another dxdiag, however, sometimes when I goto TaskManager, PunkBuster B and sometimes A uses over 100,000 + of resources. I have update PB using PBSETUP. Are there any other utilities that can stop this?
It spikes somewhat (PnkBster) and usually sits at around the 1000's of resources.

Response (Nick Bee) 03/24/2009 10:37 PM
Hi, thanks for the dxdiag. It looks like your video card drivers are a bit out of date. You can find the updated drivers here. Let us know if this helps, and if you need further assistance, please attach an updated dxdiag.

Windows typically uses only around 100MB of the page file. You are currently using around 8 times that amount. Shut down your background programs using the following procedure:
1. Click on your start button and then go to the RUN option.
2. In the open area type MSCONFIG
3. When the MSCONFIG program comes up click on the tab marked STARTUP
4. Uncheck all background programs in this list. They are non-essential.
5. Click on Apply and then close this window.
6. Reboot your system and then try the game.

Hi.
I recently reformatted my computer. Before then, cod4 worked fine, producing between 100-125 FPS.
However, I can only get between 30-50. Also, when I join a server, it usually freezes the computer or crashes. If I do join (and it rarely occurs), i get the bad fps lag.
I am fully patched-up and I run cod4 on my second partition (D
.I have also enclosed the dxdiag
