I have used FRAPS and I find it to work good for me. Only problem is the lag spikes it gives me at times.
Other than that I think its perfect for small videos and clips.
Only problem with FRAPS is how big the files turn out.

When I make a project in Sony Vegas I always have the video properties as such:
HDV 720-30p (1280x720, 29.970 fps) as my template.
Full-resolution render quality at Best.

In the Audio tab I have my resample and stretch quality at best.

And when I render the actual product I have the Save as type: Windows Media Video V11.

My quality with those settings is incredible.

Those are only the minimal settings i use to render because it takes a shit load of time to upload to Youtube.

Try

50FPS with fraps at 0.25 timescale

1280x720, 50 fps in vegas

Render as .AVI and then convert to h264 using megui or easyh264

I use wegame, its webmode recording is decent quality if your system isn't the best, and its HD mode has really good quality. Best thing is that its free

I have no clue why, but you have the most sound lag ever.

IMO, i prefer to use fraps, because you can get good quality and sound with everything, i use in cod4 player, ultra slow: 0.125
Fraps fps: 30
So i get a total of 240fps,
I render the clip as uncompressed AVI,
I then put the clips into easy H264 v0.6r encoder
set framrate to 30.00
template @ brassemmense 720p

Heres Easy h264 v0.6r by ajax:

Select either rar or zip, zip is smaller.

The quality is amazing

Playclaw is another alternative that you may want to look into. I've read it on Clayman's page (one of the best CS editors)
