Israel Folau will most likely join the GWS AFL team or the Melbourne Rebels by the conclusion of the current NRL season because $600,000 a year isnt enough, with that in mind, plus the fact hes a ******* polynesian born in NSW, do you think he should be eligible to play State of Origin for Queensland this year? On the broader side of things, do you think code defectors should be eligible to play rep footy in general once theyve announced they will no longer play in the game?

In my opinion, secured code defectors should not be allowed to. My reason for this is simple, why should an impressive, in form and potentially experienced player whose heart is in the game be left on the sidelines on account of a person who is going to piss off anyway?

We were talking about it at work, to stop this or slow it down and make the players think a bit more, they should impose a ban for like say 2 years if you defect to a different code and then want to come back, even if it's the same code just overseas ( france leavers ).

That will really make them think hard about it, the footy and money is good overseas but the living is terrible, shit power, it's dirty as...

I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to. Even if they are going to another code, if they are currently playing that sport then why not?
It's their choice to play another code, but shouldn't be punished for leaving for something else.
It's the same as if you told your footy club half way through the season that you were going to play NRL next season...then all of the players just rag on you the rest of the season. It's sort of like bullying in my opinion

pretty much if he plays the code he can but if he changes which is really looks like he will he should **** off imo. israel is a great player but he shouldn't be able to play rep if he does chance.

Yup, agree with both Nytro and Moor3y. If he's currently playing that sport, he should be allowed to have his shot at playing State of Origin. If people leave, they should cop a 12 month no return policy to make players think otherwise and longer if they leave for overseas.

I think if they defect codes and make their decision during the season that they shouldn't be allowed to play rep footy for the remainder of the year. The question will be raised if there heart is in it.

they should be aloud imo, with the way NRL is run, and the use of the salary cap, players are somewhat forced out of clubs because they (i.e Brisbane in Israels case) cant afford to pay the player anymore.....

"The Code" is turning its back on them in a way...

Im pretty sure every person here would also leave the NRL code for more money....its their career so they are obviously going to make the best 'career' choice.

I agree that the NRL needs to start handing out more money to clubs and raise the salary cap. But when this happened I was speaking to my mates at school, who we all watch and follow NRL and love it, most of us agree that if we were a superstar like Israel Folau we wouldn't switch codes mainly because, getting 500 000 a year is a tremendous amount of money and you look at players like Darren Lockyer who, when he was around the same age as Greg Inglis got offered a massive deal to go overseas, which he declined because he said he wanted to stay loyal to his fans and club.

All in all, it depends on how money hungry you are I suppose, $500 000 a year for 5 years think about it...

but other codes aren't likely to take him if he tries to move at an older age because his agility and skills will start to go downhill. Teams want him when he's at a young age. It would also be too hard to teach him AFL for example at a later age, because once he's developed the skills he needs, his time would be up.

Should only be able to represent the code you play professionally in.

Definitely no. Players will be less likely to change codes if it means they miss out on representing their State/Country.
