Hi All,

As I've been saying for some time now, It's only early stages but I am planning to run an event and would like to get an idea of what people would be satisfied with.

What would be enough to make the chosen teams desire to win it, take precedence over other Leagues or Ladders what have you. I'll also be enforcing sourcetv/ventrilo access for any casting and recorded pre/postgame interviews with captain and 2ics.

Prize Types:

  • Cash ($500-1k ea),
  • 1x Hardware ea (CPU, GFX Cards, 2ms/120hz Monitors),
  • 1x Peripherals ea (Mousepads, Mouses, Headphones),
  • 1x Autoberth to a LAN final between top 2,
  • Trophies, Medals for your profile/signature, A plaque maintained somewhere; or
  • An equal portion of all the above

I'm opening this up for discussion, this won't just involve the top teams, but middle teams, lower teams and if I can find maturity possibly open teams.

Keep in mind this is just to gather perception of the community and also identify what I'll need to present sponsors to get them on board.

yea mate, limited details at the moment, but my proposal is simple:

I choose the 4 teams and organise a weekend to play the games.

Either all on 1 day (hopefully Sunday) - Preferred
Otherwise, 2 matches Saturday, 2 matches Sunday. - A last resort

No problems, just to let you know I've been playing cs since 2003 (nerd), I've seen some competitions in my day and I know how to run them, this is purely focused on what prizes people would be happy to compete for.

velociraptors, very online

i'd say in terms of ranking prizes it would be cash, autoberths(flights, accom) to lan finals, then gaming gear/hardware

As a up and coming amateur team, status/identity is fairly paramount - of course cash/gear prizes are awesome but probably favour the prestige of winning a renowned comp.

Please keep this on topic.

I purely would like the perception of the community in what Prizes would motivate you.

4 Teams is plenty. The 4 teams are chosen specifically based on competitiveness and by the end of the comp, the 4 teams will have a clear winner who will be given a prize.

I'm considering once a few comps have been run (4) I may consider a comp with the 4 winners to determine the best of those 4 and so on, let me worry about that, just focus on the topic.

Money the highest priority but it would be good to have a comp every now and then that had decent hardware prizes like, monitors.

really great initiative turner

cashmoney would have to be the best incentive... hardware prizes can be fair annoying unless you actually need/want it - maybe offer 2 prizes and get the player/team to choose?

lan autoberth is up there... major problem with getting teams to lan is the cost of flights/accommodation - a compromise between a full cash prize and lan flights paid would be hard to say no to as you get a reward straight away then a reward a little later. that's why the msi comp is successful.

at the end of the day you need to make it easy for the teams and players to play the game... registration costs (including flights/accom), scheduling and different kind of restraints etc just restrict people~ i think that's more of an important factor than prizes or rewards... if you helped better teams/players get to lan i think the top 2/3 teams would appreciate that more than getting more cash$$money

participation/keenness is fairly arbitrary, especially online... people play because they want to, not because of possibly winning prizes - working for money is much easier.

not entirely related and a little ******ed: it's somewhat deflating going to a well-attended lan/comp and having 1 or 2 super teams (im/sql/arc) dominate everyone else time after time... which i guess is why gotgames have done the am/intvite ODC split... it would be good if there was some kind of main/inter lan (not so much an amateur lan, no one would care about that) without the top pro teams - the same thing would kind of happen but it would be a little different to seeing im/sql/arc winning and go a long way to improve teams and/or players... not allowing teams into a comp would be a hard call and it's hard to say what a lan would be worth of the best of the best weren't there...

glhf~ anything like this is only a step forward (into where ever css/gaming is going...)

I'd like trophies and/or plaque. kinda like keeps the memory of the match sort of. I am for one against cash prizes. Hardware and peripherals would be nice.

If you are going to make a trophy it should be something like the stanley cup, but not by size. Where everytime there is a winner their team names get engraved and stuff like that.

and lineups, I feel this is a minor cost that will be 'nice to have' so it's easy to throw that in with some cash, I'm getting the feeling mainly cash is all that's required (apart from good competition).

Let there be no doubt, this will be the most competitive event in Australia, given the selection process. I will be choosing 4 teams, equal skill to compete to determine who is better over 4 maps, if 4 maps doesn't settle it, 5 maps, this has never been done in Australia and never has a competition been so limited to who is chosen to compete.

Hopefully because of the above, teams would be grateful just to compete in it let alone win it.

I think cash takes priority in the prizes. But medals/trophies for your profile would also be cool. Any peripherals and or hardware is just a bonus in my opinion.

Good to see more and more people giving back by the way, great idea Snyper, will be watching this thread closely.
