just thought with the amount of young adults on here there may well be people who know the system well, so... does anyone have any in-depth knowledge of the youth allowance system? from what i have been told & can figure out it seems pretty subjective, with the payments being based on case-by-case decisions rather than the strict criteria listed on the centrelink website. or am i completely wrong?

for instance, would there be any possibility of getting some kind of benefit being 17, living independantly out of home (paying for rent n everything etc) and working full-time, even if i haven't been working for the 18 months quoted on the website? thanks in advance if anyone can help, calling centrelink is pretty useless and i havent had a chance to go in yet...

If you're working full-time I think they go on your wage etc... how much you earn and shit.

They go on how much your parents make per year, if one makes over 35,000 then you don't get anything.

It goes by earnings each week, if you pay rent and live out of home they will give you extra allowance for rent. Idk about the job bit but i only had my job for a few weeks when i got on it.

Edit: I'm not on it any more because i couldn't deal with the bullshit like when i would work 30 hours in a week and they would still ask me to look for jobs and log it.... idiots.

you don't have to do it legitimately

if you work, i'm fairly sure your maximum amount of income allowed per fortnight (with centrelink money being provided) is $230ish. So you're pretty much capped to that amount, unless you earn more yourself per fortnight.
If you do get money from centrelink & work part time, you can only accumulate up to 6 grand before they stop giving you $X amount of money per fortnight.
