Hi guys,

Just recently got a samsung 2233rz. Seems fine running in 120hz for about 10-30mins under load and then the screen will just freeze. If i try turning the computer on again it will not boot, most noticably the graphics card goes nuts (full fan speed) and i have to wait about 10 mins with the comp turned off untill it will boot again.
Have tested running the screen @ 60hz and it seems fine. Have tried googling but all i find is people having problems with flickering etc but i haven't experienced any at all.
Overdrive is disabled in CCC aswell.
Specs:
i7 860
xfx 5850
850w psu
all at stock.

Any ideas?

mmmmm. i'm more inclined to think that it's something to do with the graphics card, as the screen runs fine on 60hz.
i'll chuck in one of my old 8800s and test with that before i decide whether to blame the screen or not

just out of left field, wouldnt it be better to run 120hz thru a 120hz approved nvidia card.

Alhtought the 5xxx series can do it, doesnt mean they will

There have been problems with ATI cards ranging from the 5870 downwards and the Samsung 2233rz.

I have the same monitor with a 5970 but have had no problems. I did research on the screen before I bought it and therefore knew I wouldn't have any problems with the 5970.

On the Samsung website it says you need a compatible Nvidia card to run this screen.

It isn't a screen issue, its your video card. The video card isn't faulty it just struggles running that screen @ 120hz. Have you had any weird lines across the screen when playing games @ 120hz?

Also have you updated your drivers, 10.7 is the latest. Some people say this solves their problem. Do a bit of searching on google.

cheers mate.

haven't experienced any kind of jittering or artifacting @ 120hz (when i googled this i found that heaps of people were suffering from these problems, but couldn't find anyone having the same problems as i am)

all it's doing is freezing. sometimes i can play for 2 mins, sometimes i can play for an hour. comp goes nuts if i try restart, gfx card runs at 100% fan speed and doesn't boot, and yes, i'm running the latest ati drivers

Ok, now you mention those facts it definitely seems like a video card fault.

Is the card under warranty still?

Try running the screen around 80hz. See what happens?

yeah, the card is only about 2 months old.

can only select 60/100/110/120 hz i think. i think i tried playing in game at 100, then i restarted comp and it wouldn't boot. will test it again tonight, still got my 8800 in at the moment

ummm....

So both graphics cards are doing it.

Only happens @ 120hz?

Now it could be 1 of a few things.
