Hi guys,

I've been trying lately to get all my old programs from my old 32 Vista Home Prem into a separate partition for Win 7 Pro x64 (using the /Program Files (x86)/), which failed using old copy+paste, worked while i had a single partition of C: and used Easy Transfer, but i didnt want the pain of defragging or imaging a 1.9Tb disk, so i reformatted and done another install using the same Easy Transfer file to push the programs into U:. Edited the registry to go with it, but its not recognised by the Start Menu nor by my g15 LCD or xfire. (as shown here: http://www.glowfoto.com/static_image/13-064733L/2043/png/08/2010/img5/glowfoto). Also, I'm running a RAID0 with 2x SpinPoint F3 1Tb's as primary drive, old vista install complete with apps/docs is still on my old drive which is pending a format to become another storage drive.

I've been madly "googling" since but cant seem to find a solution specific to my problem. Is there something i've missed, or will this ultimately fail and i format U: (again) and just reinstall everything (total program size runs to around 210Gb, not something i am looking forward to, i assure you)?

System specs:
Win7 Pro x64
CPU: [AMD] Phenom X4 965 BE
GPU: [ATi] Sapphire Vapor-X 5850
RAM: 2x 2GbMB Corsair 1333Hz
Motherboard: ASUS M4A78T-E
Power Supply: Corsair HX-620

All of the Vista programs should work fine. If not, just run in compatibility mode for Vista, easy!

Sorry, I've worded that wrong. I want Win7 to read all program files from U: /Program Files/, instead of C: /Program Files/, as theres only 200-ish MBs left in partition C: /. Anyway to do this, aside from reinstalling and before it creates a user hit shift+f10 and following this tutorial

P.S Sparkzz, you're a horrible spammer

You might want to have a look in the registry (run regedit from the start menu).

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

You will find the default setting for Program Files & %ProgramFiles%

Note: Be warned I have not tried this and it would be best to backup your registry before attempting this. Also, a clean install with nothing else at all installed would be the best environment to try these settings.

How to backup your registry
Within regedit, right-click 'Computer' and select 'Export' and save the .reg file to any specified location. You can then double-click this file to fully restore your registry.

Hope this helps

Found this on another website, hopefully its what you're after.

Also here is something regarding updates when using this:

Bit of a bump, but im at it again, didnt settle for a 1.9Tb partition. Currently using 200/800/900gb C/E/U partion on my RAID0. Edited the original post to reflect what i've done.

Ok, so you want your program shortcuts to appear in your startmenu?

Fundamentally, yes. All the install files ive run so far dont seem to have the repair function in setup, so i've turned to the registry to force it. Didnt work. also want other programs such as start menu, xfire, g15 LCD software, the add/remove programs thing in control panel etc torecognise that they are there.

Xfire you can manually add all the games, all your programs you will have to manually create shortcuts in the start menu, im guessing G15 will let you manually add the games aswell. Im guessing the add/remove programs entries were in the registry of your previous install, not sure if anything can be done with that.
