Hi guys... I have an issue with my net...
after roughly 7PM eveyday my pings jump from 39 - 450/620 on ventrilo...
and make online gaming vertically impossible... this has been happening for the last couple of weeks now...

The company is TPG.. yeah I know tpg suck.. but I still shouldn't get pings like this...
My connection is ADSL2+ which is roughly connecting at a 9.3MB/1.2MB speed.

Just to let you know im not downloading or streaming or anything to get these high pings...
and even though my ping is high at these times I can still download at full speed without an issue..

any ideas?

Congestion issues. Welcome to the Telstra infrastructure. You need to make a complaint to TPG and get them to test your line, if they return congestion, ring Telstra and get complaining. Although that wont do much, you need to make TPG also report it.

Congestion normally does not point to the ISP, instead your local exchange.

Congestion = Overload on your local exchange
Bad pings to certain locations = routing issues

Does not matter if they are on TPG or whatever... congestion is based on the local exchange not the ISP.

I have congestion on my line - exchane is around 400 people, or 150-ish households, most of them hillbillies. Dno how that works, but i whinged to Node, they got onto Telstra, and not only is there congestion, but a fault in my Line. New line ftw.

Hey im in SA and experiencing same problem from around 8PM to 10Pm it is definitely not a congestion issue because, 1. speed doesn't drop out 24mb/1mb for me I live 100 M (away from the exchange) 2. I have found that Servers hosted by Detox, quadeye, Gamearena, Gamesonnet etc servers have no effect on ping. Just the other server hosting companies.

This is definitely a routing Issue I have rang tpg and had a rage at them they have put me to level 2 technical support.

Hey.

Im with TPG. Everynight from 8:54AEST it lags till 11-12 o clock. I sent trace route i got a phone call last night from TPG the guy on the phone said THey dont know exactly whats going. "Not even suprised... they never do as they blame people for their own stupidity". The problem is coming from the PIPENETWORKS according to trace route and god knows when they will fix this really. I've been emailing them for 1 and half month now. THey are just pathetic.

I get lag from 6-10 pm every night with optus (supposedly one of the better companies). Purely cause my exchange uplink is overloaded. So i feel ya pain. In saying that, i play rts games now, so doesn't hurt me as much as it used to.
