During my time playing the Call of Duty series, we've always focused on leagues and our ladders, mostly because it gives us flexibility which is a good thing in a community like this because we're not all full-fledged pros and some of us like to have the power to dictate when our matches take place.

But, what the Call of Duty community has never delved into is One Dayer comps, like stand-alone events that start on one day, and come out with a winner in one day. This is something that has been used to great effect in not only Counterstrike (1.6 & CSS) LAN and but also online.

So how would we go about something like this? Is it practical for people to be on for a full weekend day to complete the competition if need be? My thoughts are 8 or 16 team double elim using a Seeding pool generated by a panel of knowledgeable CoD4 players (and hopefully impartial).

Bare in mind this is also something that could be completed over 2 days if need.

The most important question... Is this something that CyberGamer would help facilitate? ie. Articles on Website, Staff to oversee tournament, Server use etc

Your thoughts guys? Give suggestions, support the idea, or shoot me down in flames

Although CyberGamer League is up and in fullflight, kudos to Asterix!, I think something like CyberGamer Onedayer could help keep the spark in this community whilst we all await the CG-o Finals

*edit* - I'd also be glad to help with this in any way if its deemed a viable option

Yeah more then happy to help out, I intend to run a State Of Origin over a few Sundays etc after CGi is complete. Something between now and CGo Finals would be cool.

Good idea imo, seen a few online 1.6 comps doing it, seems to work well for them. Just need the right people to organise it.

Considering how many people raged when we announced just 4 of the 8 teams for CGi, the teams invited would need to be very thought out.

It's obviously impractical to have a competition like this on a weekday, the question I see declaring this suggestions feasibility would be: Would your team sacrifice a weekend day (Sat/Sun) to play a CoD4 Competition?

I think most teams would be happy to play from Sunday ~5pm, but getting them to start at like mid-day might be hard. And most people probably have sport and stuff on Saturday, and do stuff Saturday night etc

========== CyberGamer 8 Team OneDayer =========
Rules: CyberGamer Invite PAM
Format: 8 Team Single Elimination

6:00PM:
Game 1 Server 1: #1 plays #8
Game 2 Server 2: #2 plays #7
Game 3 Server 3: #3 plays #6
Game 4 Server 4: #4 plays #5

7:00PM:
Game 5 Server 1: Winner of Game 1 vs Winner of Game 4
Game 6 Server 2: Winner of Game 2 vs Winner of Game 3

8:00PM: Grand final!
Grand Final Server 1: Winner of Game 5 vs Winner of Game 6

This is a brief overview of what a 8 team Single elim would look like, with the ammount of time left you could even make the GF Best of 3. This format could also be upscaled to incorporate more teams or double elimination, pending everyones thoughts on weekend play

It would be much more beneficial to the community if this idea was either:

a) Expanded to incorporate 16 teams
b) A sister competition for teams that didnt make the Top 8 Cut

To help promote the lower tiered teams that are keen on getting some matches under their belt.
