Hey guys, I have just fixed a "rouge anti-virus" problem (Which came from a torrent) by system restoring in safe mode on vista, now I'm on the hunt for "THE BEST" anti-virus software, whether it cost me $100 or not.

Please all I'm asking for is recommendations to the best AV around.

Norton 2010 is good. I picked up a copy of NIS 2010 from ebay for $22.

A lot of people will flame Norton as their 2006-07-08 etc products were horrible resource hogs but the 09 and 2010 products really lifted their game, especially 2010. Installs in about 30 seconds and uses bugger all system resources.

malware anti bytes + spybot SD on "dont allow any changes to this PC without coming through me first" mode picks up almost anything for me

Avast was installed on my computer a while ago, and it seems pretty decent too, its blocked a few nasties that might have come through.. My dad loves it, thinks its better then AVG Free, so it's worth looking in to. (oh, you asked about it lol!)

I would not get avg free, they limit it so they you buy the full version, i guess its ok for basic stuff but i found it useless

Kaspersky, without doubt the best anti-virus on the market. This is coming from a business point of view also.
