Yes it's true...

Our Graphic Design Team has been working for several months on bringing you CyberGamer's very first Graphic Design Ladder. Called the GFX Design Challenge it will bring a whole new level to what you've previously been used to. 1v1 design battles across a selection of maps each requiring you to employ different strategies as you not only face off against each other, but the clock as well. "How will this all work?" you say, fear not as we've been planning it all out for a while.

As we finalize details we'll let you know about them. Currently there's still some things that need to be put in place before we can launch, so as such the ladder won't be open for teams as we tweak settings. As such stop with the PMs as we ain't gonna reveal anything more until it all done.

Quick FAQ before they become to Frequent

What part of the site will the ladder be on?
Due to the nature of graphic design, once launched the ladder will be available through the PC Games menu.

How long will matches be?
Around 2 hours. Broken down into 6 rounds, with 20 minutes per round.

How will matches be scored?
Matches will be scored by a yet unspecified number of "judges", basically the admins and refs for the ladder, and while the specifics are still being organised it will be more than one and judged according to certain criteria. Scoring for each will then be made public on the match page along with the designs.

You said designs, how many designs will each designer be doing in a match?
Again something to be confirmed but between 2 and 4. Once i announce the format it will make more sense, but what will determine the number is how long we want to make matches versus how many images we would like to be able to judge off, that way it's not just one image per designer that will determine the results.

Is there any specific software required?
You're welcome to use whatever you want to use, however you will be required on sign-up to list the software you will be using and what versions.

What will happen to the Sig of the Week comps?
SOTW is still staying so keep on the forums for that each week.

With other games you can spectate. Will you be able to spectate GFX ladder matches?
You will be able to see what designers have done after each round. As we get more sound in the systems that will be in play other options may be available.

Is it just gonna be a bigger SOTW?
No, the way the ladder matches are laid out means that it'll push you a lot further, and majority of designs will not be forum signatures. The ladder will push you to be more creative but to also work to the various requirements that designers often find themselves facing.

What is the ladder format? Is there set matches? Will I have to be involved each week?
The CG GFX Design Challenge is an Open Ladder Format, meaning you challenge/defend against other designers. If you win you're protected for 48 hours and other designers can't challenge you, if you lose you're Vulnerable meaning you can't challenge but you can be challenged. You're progress in the ladder is up to you.

What else have you been hiding?
We'll be bringing you more content, interviews, tutorials, and resources all to your fingertips through a Graphics Portal of sorts. It will also feature as a place to connect to the ladder and see the latest SOTW winner and have easy access to the active SOTW. We're currently completing some of the systems to put it in place and will update you on that.
