As this game will likely be the combining of a few game communities, I thought I'd do a bit of a rundown of the teams that I think will be leading the game for the first season of Black Ops. If the game sucks - likely some or many of these teams will die, and teams will have roster changes.

Firstly I would like to state. This is an opinion based article. I do not know any of the Modern Warefare 2 teams. This list will not have many Modern Warfare 2 teams in it. I have no doubt there will be some MW2 teams that will be competitive in Black Ops.

The Last Reconaissance
[written by sensuki]
Asterix . sn@p . Geary . raureka . iNTER
Everyone knows Geary is frothing @ Black Ops almost as much as everyone knows Frank had a good time last night during Vince's first Party in the movie Old School.

For those newer players. The Last Reconaissance is one of the longest surviving clans on CG (including the founders of CG). They have been together since the original Call of Duty and still have three members from that time - Asterix, sn@p and Geary. Raureka joined during Call of Duty 2 and iNTER joined during Call of Duty 4.

I think /rcon will be one of the top Black Ops teams in the first season largely because of their skill. Every player on their team is a keen fragger with good aim (in some cases fantastic aim) and having come from CoD1 and CoD2 backgrounds, have a depth of 'CoD smarts' that a lot of the newer CoD4 teams and MW2 teams will not have. They have been a top team in CoD1, CoD2 and CoD4, and no doubt they will be up there again. If they enjoy the game, they will be one of the best teams.

Team Immunity
[written by sensuki]
juzzk1d . obez . ShOwie . nick
Representing Team Immunity for Black Ops is the CoD4 iM team. Having spoken to some of their members, they are keen to reclaim the crown as they were once the undisputed best team in Australia for Call of Duty 4.

Their lineup is not the same as the team that dominated CoD4 during 2008 however, and this year they have really lost their reputation, but still made Top 3 in many competitions. Black Ops however is a fresh start for everyone and Immunity were the best in CoD4 because they had the most stable lineup out of any good team, making ONE change throughout the entirety of CoD4. Currently their lineup consists of old favourites juzzk1d and obez. Nick and Showie being two more recent additions. However I am unsure who their 5th will be for season 1 as TheOne is going back to Jordan for a holiday and he might miss out on being in their squad. Gamer was a reserve player for them during CoD4 but he may be let go. As long as iM have a decent 5th, they will no doubt be a top 8 team during Season 1.

Frenetic Array
[written by sensuki]
ampzz . DutchPride . JOSH . stace . Prawny . spreik
Not much of an introduction needed here, Fray are the best CoD4 team in Australia, circa 2010. They are the best because they have a stable lineup (5 core and a reserve) of active players who are committed and they have built up some of the best teamwork I have seen from an Australian Call of Duty team. A lot of their strength relies in their dedication to fixing the kinks in their game, if they lose they will go back to the drawing board and bring something fresh to the table the next time you play them.

There has been much controversy as to whether Fray will be able to adapt into the new game, the talk is 'Fray will be shit in Black Ops'. I think this is a bit of a farce because any team will be good if they put as much time into the game as Fray did in CoD4 during 2010. I think Fray will definitely be a top 8 team in Season 1 of Black Ops but whether they will be the best team really depends on the style of the game, however I would say they have a good chance because I don't see them making any lineup changes going into the new game, and stability plays a big part in a team's success.

Archaic Esports
[written by sensuki]
Sensuki . Millah . firewizard . motion
Represting Archaic for Black Ops is the Archaic CoD4 team. Archaic were the undisputed 2nd best CoD4 team in Australia, circa 2010. They formed in February 2010 and took out the MSI Summer Cup but their title of #1 was taken back by Frenetic Array at the Alienware Clan Challenge, after a tossle to and fro and losing some key players. Archaic ended up the weaker side in the end.

It is regretful to announce that once again, Archaic will be plagued by roster changes. Everyone's favourite guy - A.P will be likely sitting out of the core lineup for Black Ops, and Killerbot will likely be benched due to availability issues. Motion from Gameplex is joining us. If we can get a really good 5th I think we will be a contender for top 4 in Black Ops, however if we are forced to chose someone from a lower tier of play, we will probably just be a top 8 team. I think our biggest strength is our ad hoc playstyle which makes us harder to deal with when we are attacking.

Xlayer Legion
[written by motion]
geNx . Jarek . reveL . feraL . RequieM . drache . dippa
By now, most of the community will be aware of the Xlayer Legion. XL is one of the oldest counter-strike teams in australia, and their current roster boasts an incredible amount of successful 1.6 players. The full roster comprising of talon, genx, requiem, feral, drache, jarek, dippa and reveL. Talon, Genx, Drache, Jarek and Feral are long time team mates from 1.6 who decided to make the switch to Modern Warfare 2.

The team was incredibly successful in Modern Warfare 2, taking out Season 2 of the MW2 Ladder and placing second in the first MW2 season and WinterCup. Individually the players were known to be amazing at the game, with many featuring in the MW2 State of Origin. Originally relying on their years of counter-strike to learn Modern Warfare 2, coming into black ops the team should now have the CoD experience they need to challenge the top teams

I believe the team will be able to match it with the best for many reasons. Firstly, the team has had the same core players for years. Their chemistry should win them games by itself. Aswell as this each player has great aim due to their years of 1.6. Xlayer Legion are well known for their aggressive style of play in Modern Warfare 2, the way they play reminds me of Team Immunity in the first CGi season of CoD4 - they will be in your grills before you know it. I feel that this style of agressive play will do wonders for them in Black Ops when combined with their chemisty, experience and aim.

Mindfreak Esports
[written by sensuki]
serialz . DENIED . RiGz . anx . Ministry . TommyGun . Tegs
Mindfreak Esports have been around for a while, they were fairly active during CoD4HQ during 2009 and in 2010 after unfortunately missing out on a seed in the MSI Summer Cup, they placed 7th overall in CoD4 Draft and in 1st in CGm Season 4 2010. Their biggest achievement in my opinion was coming 2nd at MLE LAN in August; they surprised everyone by going into the finals with the #1 seed, knocked out Team Immunity only to lose to Team eXile5 in the grand final, and two of their players had to leave after the first map.

Their lineup as far as I know consists of Serialz, Ministry, RiGZ, Denied, anx, TommyGun and Tegs. I am unsure whether they will go with the CoD4 core5 or sub in Tegs for one of the less active players for his CSS prowess. I think Mindfreak will be a competitive team in Black Ops because they have some of the keenest players in CoD4. Denied and RiGZ in particular are very dedicated to the encyclopaedic approach, in which they will spend hours working out set nades and watching demos. Some of their strats in CoD4 left a bit to be desired - but sometimes they got it right, and I think with Tegs' help they will improve on this. They will be a competitive active team and while I don't think they have the skill or experience of some of the above mentioned teams, they will definitely be a top 8 team.

Vincitori
[written by motion]
Spachala . SaVage . grumpy . rhys
A team comprised with some of Call of Duty's longest lasting players and experienced players, Vincitori should be out to impress in Black Ops. Once again the tantalizing trio of Spachala, Grumpy and Savage will join forces again to give Black Ops their best shot. These 3 keen fraggers have been teammates for years, mainly playing for the Exile 5 organisation in both Call of Duty 4 and 5. Having these 3 players alone in one team brings a tremendous amount of CoD experience, with all 3 players being 'veterans' of the scene.

Their roster currently features Spachala, Savage, Grumpy, rhys and a yet to be announced 5th. Looking at the lineup, CoD2 players should recognize this is 3 players from core5's successful CoD2 team and rhys who made a name for himself in Call of Duty 5 playing for Exile 5. Chemistry and Teamwork will certainly not be an issue for this team. They have plenty of friends that could fill the role of 5th, with the position most likely going to Frant1c or SmirnOff.
This team will likely be very aggressive, with players like savage, grumpy and rhys; the team has a lot of rushing potential. That said, I would not be surprised if they employed a slower style of play to utilise Spachala's fantastic ability to use a rifle, or the picking potential of either Frant1c or SmirnOff. Either way I believe they will be an exciting team to watch and play.
Exile5 competed in CGi Season 1 and 2, placing 5th/6th in both seasons. The team was a force to be reckoned with in Call of Duty 5, going undefeated to take out CyberGamer Invite Season One.
I believe this team has what it takes to be a constant top finisher in Black Ops due to their experience, team work and aim. Having SaVage in your team will also provide some rounds, as it is well known that you CANNOT beat sav in a 1v1.

Team Uprising
[written by sensuki]
dice . evasion . dante . kenji . tronic
Team Uprising were the first team to sign up to the Black Ops ladder. That's keen. Their team consists of their last known CoD4 lineup which featured during the GameOn ODC, including evasion (from sila), dice, dante, kenji (from fray) and tronic. They also have reserves of enema, electric, duvel, hoax and Lonely. Uprising were never a fantastic team at CoD4, but they started playing a few months after everyone else. They made CGm in 2008 with their old lineup, and CGa with their new lineup.

I think uprising will be a top 8 contender, but not necessarily a top 8 team. They have most of the means to make it but their lineup fell to newer teams such as Clarity and Void (Zenith) during CoD4 CGa and in the GameOn ODC. However this is a fresh start for them just like everyone else. Evasion has plenty of experience and will likely be a top player during early Black Ops. Dice also has CGi experience in his days bottoming for sublime in season 3 (motion told me to say it!). It really is up to players like Tronic and Kenji who are newer players to the team to really step up in the new game. If they are keen from the get-go, get in the scrims and the practice - uprising will be a good team.

Reckless
[written by motion]
Tal . wazza . Buczy . extacy
Another team comprising of long staying Call of Duty players, Team Reckless will almost certainly be a team to write home about in Black Ops. Currently featuring 4 out of 5 players from Team Qlimax, the roster is currently filled by Buczy, Wazza, Tal and Extacy. The big question for this team will be who fills the 5th spot. I wonder who TheOne to join will be ?

Qlimax had much success in Call of Duty 4 and 5. Placing 2nd in Season 1 and 3rd/4th in Season 2 of CoD4's CyberGamer Invite leagues. The team also finished 2nd in the CEVO Call of Duty 5 competition. The team will be gunning for nothing less than a top 3 placing in Black Ops leagues, the team will no doubt be bringing the storm.
The team has a lot of talent in its roster, with each of the 4 current players being well known for their call of duty skills. Buczy will be no doubt one of the best scopers to grace the early stages of the game, hopefully his time away from the call of duty series hasn't hampered his skills. Wazza was well known for his aggressive rush style of play in Call of Duty 4. Saying he was a big fan of the 74u was an understatement, but he also showed some great skills with the 47 in the later stages of the game. Extacy was one of the most solid 47's in Australian Call of Duty, he was well known for aggressive entry frags and consistently hitting his shots. A lot can be said for Tal, he truly is the biggest wildcard in Australian Call of Duty. Tal is a ridiculously sharp fragger, though he often gets tied down by the game itself. He has the ability to pick up either the smg or rifle and go to work on teams - if he's on his game. I think tal's current job status will allow him to find the consistency he needs.
Reckless should do quite well in Black Ops, they will no doubt employ an aggressive style of play with Wazza and Tal leading the charge - backed by the consistency of extacy's rifle and buczy's scope. The team has the experience and chemistry to make themselves one of Black Ops better teams. The only concern for this team will be whether or not they put in the hours. With wazza being an avid scrim-dodger due to his Jersey Shore loving antics, it could be possible that the team will not play enough. One thing is certain though, if they put in the hours they should definitely be a team to watch out for.

I will not give a writeup to every team, but here are some teams that I think, may do well in Black Ops - mostly consisting of new CoD4 teams from this year.

Team eXile5
Total Qontrol [CoD4 not MW2]
SUREFIRE Gaming
Fighting for Freedom
[SYF] Gaming Team 1 [Spud's team]
Zenith Gaming

The interesting thing is, at the moment we don't have a token 'Team Livid'

And finally

I am because the older teams all have a record of being good at the start of new games.
Not to insult either of you, but you haven't been in a good team at the start of a CoD game yet.

Mindfreak are probably the newest team on the list, but a lot of those teams in particular have newer players from this year.
