If you're like me and have an under-par CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo / AMD 64 x2 etc etc) and you are getting 20-60 FPS in Black Ops Pub

Here is what to do to fix it.

Black Ops is currently a poorly optimized game and relies heavily on CPU power.
You need to take some stress off your CPU by distributing some of the load onto your video card

This will work on anything from an 8800GT and upwards (ATi included)

Turn Anti-Aliasing on (4x if you've got a bad video card, higher if you've got a better one)
Turn Anisotropic Filtering on (4x with a bad video card, higher with a better one)
Extra Detail setting
Trilinear Filtering

and now you should have a more evenly balanced load on your system and should be getting a minimum of ~60 FPS when playing

I'm running an E6850 @ 3.4 GHz, 4GB DDR2 800 and a 1GB 4890 and I now get 60-125 FPS

enjoy

wondER just try setting the AA and AF to 4x, you might have put it up too high

extacy had the same problem he put his AA on 16x on an 8800GT lol

Thanks, now i can hold 30 fps at 1920 x 1080 when i could barely hold that at 800 x 600.
EDIT: when i changed to 1024 x 768 couldn't hold it around 30 for even 5 seconds and it was choppy with fps staying around 10. But, in 1920 x 1080 it ran smoothly with no spikes.

I get stable FPS when running around, it's the firefights that kill me. As soon as I iron sight and start shooting, I struggle to get over 20/30 fps. Makes it ridiculously hard to hit people moving around heaps or close to me. Even putting the settings on high didn't fix this problem for me.

I just can't get over how little game and performance testing went into the release of a game of this caliber. Cheers for the tips Sensuki, I'll give them a shot and see if I can further improve my frames per second with this aging E8400.
