I picked up Tf2 a few months back and have been enjoying it a great deal. Recently myself and a few friends decided to make a clan and get more competitive. I was looking at the ladder however and it seems as if there is only about 5-6 teams who are actually active, this brings me to my point.

Why is the competitive TF2 community dead(atleast it seems that way to me)?
Did it use to be a larger competitive community?
Is there any other site offering active ladders for TF2?
Lastly, how or can we improve and attract more players to the community?
