It's the same as with l4d2, needs to be the same game version.

Probably not, especially because L4D doesn't run without Steam on the PC unless you have a cracked version. And I really don't condone cracking L4D/2

Changing the version is no problem. There's a file that you can change the value and it works fine. The problem with that method is, if a DLC comes out, it breaks beyond redemption all .dems, unless you get a version of L4D that was before the DLC. Which again is a problem, because L4D is required to update to be able to run.

That's true, I forgot that one.
But, if the game knows there's an update before you go into offline mode, it won't work. =/

I ran my old versions of L4D last night in Offline Mode and was able to play some of my demos from the OzDKO tournament and CG Frustians ladder. I have an even older backup of L4D which will probably let me play some demos from CGi/CGo CEVO days. TIME TO MAKE SOME CLIPS!
