The Left4Dead team at Cybergamer are happy to announce our new Tournament, the "It Ain't Over Yet" L4D1 revival tournament, with special thanks to Sentient from SendForRoar for the use of servers. With some of the big guns coming back, this 16 team tournament is looking to be an absolute thriller!
As the poster says, the tournament will be beginning on Monday the 17th of January, and will be in the format of a double elimination tournament, meaning that teams will only be eliminated upon losing two matches. Once all teams are registered, the schedule, placings and dates will be posted here. The current schedule is planned so that 2 rounds are played per week, meaning the 8 round (including final) tournament will be finished in approximately one month. How this will work is that teams will be forced to play one match in a Monday-Thursday period, and then one match in a Friday-Sunday period. Once again, when teams are confirmed, the schedule will be posted.
The tournament will be running a customized version of the Rotoblin config, and can be found
here. Further rules are still being modified, but will be published on the ladder rules page when finalized. Each round will have a specified map, and we are currently looking into the possibility of custom maps. However, if they are to be used, they wont be used until later in the tournament, so that people can get a feel for them.
How to play a match - Admins will set up your match, and we advise that you use the match chat page to sort a time out ASAP. Servers will need to be booked, using the SendForRoar booking system, which can be found
here , and the IP/Password will need to be posted in the Match Chat page. To save confusion, the higher seeded team (challenging team) are responsible for booking the server.
Lets now take a break from the serious stuff, to have a look at some of the teams competing
Brackets – One of the most distinguished names in the L4D clan scene is back in business. The three way combination of Reaver, Patteh and Noob is one to be feared everywhere – Pubs, Scrims, Matches, Forums, Random bars in Sydney. These three, in combination with whoever else they chose to play, are definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with. Who knows, could this be the return of Ultima Hyper Benchwarmer Nigglus Z? God I hope not. Player to watch: Noob – There is only one word to describe this guy's skills in L4D, and that is freakish.
Send For Roar – Back when dinosaurs roamed the plains of L4D1, a huge fear trembled through teams when they heard the letters "SFR". One of the most dangerous clans throughout the early stages of the L4D scene, they are back to prove that you might just be able to teach the old dogs a few new tricks. Player to watch: Weisk – The man has an unorthodox method of using fire to his advantage.
Scrubpeding Presence – The undefeated CG Frustian team are back, with the loud mouth leader Hauksbok heading the charge. With some members heading off to LoL, some to L4D2, and some into HoN, I am predicting a struggle for them to get back into the scrimming scene regularly. However, if all the sun, moons, stars align, crazy things could happen. Player to watch: Epoch – The "azn supastah" never seems to lose his touch on any game he plays, and is up there with Crab as the best crowner in Australian L4D.
Exodus – Currently hot favourite to take out the L4D2 Season 2 Finals Series, these boys also have a large history in L4D1. After a nail biting loss to Crayons in the OzL4D DKO in the final rounds, the X guys seem to go on a bit of a hiatus, until emerging with a boom in the L4D2 scene. With some pick ups from some old teams like Anthrax from HxJ, and Silent Assassin from V3, they are not to be underestimated. Player to watch: Silent Assassin – Was one of the strongest V3 members, and has continued on playing L4D1 while the community migrated to L4D2.
Envy - The Season 1 winners are back for another bite, with mostly the same line up that ripped through teams in the early days. Another team that ventured into other games like HoN, L4D2 and BC2, it will be interesting to see how quickly these guys can find form, and hopefully get back to their decimating ways. Player to watch: Berad - The original master of hunters, who could land a 25 from anywhere you told him to, is looking to reclaim his previous moniker of "Berad Air".
OH16 – A large team with a lot of high class L4D2 players from different teams, who have all ended up playing together in a variety of ways. While some people may write them off, the way that they will play together, moulded as a team, will overcome any knowledge gaps they may have with the game. But, how could they lose? They have TWO members from Bogl. Player to watch: Halicarnassus – A very underrated player who went mostly team less throughout L4D1, but was always pugging with the big boys.
JPG - A team that in the later seasons of L4D1 that many would consider a "thorn in the side", able to pull off some really incredible moves that would absolutely blindside a team, and put them off their game. Some very talented infected, with a lot of smarts and sharp aiming see's JPG as my surprise packet, and definitely the dark horse in the tournament. Player to watch: I cant pick between Enrama & Chingy - Two dudes who have been playing this game forever, and both know the ins and outs of it back to front.
With that all said and done, only 1 place is left in this tournament (providing the new 4Q can get a 4th), and it will be a first in best dressed occasion. Make sure you get signed up today!
