Gigabyte E-Sports Championship 2011


Gigabyte is pleased to announce the Gigabyte Electronic Sports Championships 2011 for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Registrations for the event will open on Sunday 13th March at 8pm AEST. The competition will consist of LAN qualifiers held in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland.

The finals will be held at Melbourne's premier LAN event, Respawn LAN. All matches will be played on the latest Gigabyte & Intel powered gaming machines featuring Intel's Core i7 950 processors and Gigabyte's X58-UD3R motherboards and GTX460 video cards. Redbull will also be available for free to all competitiors for the duration of the event.

The winners of the qualifiers in NZ, QLD and NSW will receive an autoberth into the final along with $1000 cash to go towards flights (note: money will not be given out UNLESS the team confirms they will be attending the final) whilst 2nd place will receive an invite into the Grand Final in Melbourne. The winner and runner up in Melbourne will both receive invites to the finals in Melbourne.

Prize Money Breakdown (Finals)

1st Place - $2000AUD
2nd Place - $1000 AUD
3rd Place - $500 AUD

MVP Award: Kingston SSD
Sportsmanship Award: Kingston DDR3 ram kit

LAN Qualifiers Registration/Information

LAN qualifiers will be held in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland with registrations for the competition being done on a first come first served basis with a maximum limit of 8 teams per qualifier. The registration fee will be $150 per team and will be paid through the online registration portal with registrations opening Sunday 13th March and closing on 25th March.

LAN QUALIFIER DETAILS
In each LAN qualifier the same format will apply, this is as follows:
- 8 teams per qualifier
- 2 groups of 4 teams
- Top 2 teams go into the grand finals being bo3.

An online qualifier is currently being considered for those teams unable to attend LAN qualifiers with a final decision to be announced before registrations open on Sunday.

MELBOURNE LAN QUALIFIER
Location: Wired Events

Format: 5v5 SD – MR12
Teams: 8 (minimum of 6 teams)
Cost: $150 per team

BRISBANE LAN QUALIFIER
Location: Elysium Internet Café on Brunswick St
Address: First Floor 279 - 281 Brunswick Street Mall, Fortitude Valley

Format: 5v5 SD – MR12
Teams: 8 (minimum of 6 teams)

SYDNEY LAN QUALIFIER
Location: Beyond Internet and Gaming Cafe

Format: 5v5 SD – MR12
Teams: 8 (minimum of 6 teams)
Cost: $150 per team

Auckland LAN QUALIFIER
Location: TBA

Date: 2/4/11
Time: 10am – 6pm

The reason for no ps/2 I'm assuming is because the PC will require a restart. Since they don't want to re-login to steam every time a new team sets up then the best thing to do is just ban PS/2.
