Nice and simple problem: I press the console key, Black Ops semi-crashes out with a "Fatal Error" (whole extent of the message.

I was playing before no problems, close Black Ops, reopen, BAM. right in the kisser.

no idea what to do and i didn't see any solutions for this specific problem. already had my on-board sound card disabled (i've got a second audio card).

anything helpful is greatly appreciated.

edit: when i mean semi-crashes out, the game goes to a black screen and i have to kill the process through task manager.

i had this problem, i swore and spat at the computer...
nah but srsly i had the problem, turns out it was my config, i spent a few hours editing it then jumped right into game before i tested piece by piece, obviously some cmd was causing this but i spent hours fault findng, so i just replaced my heavily tweaked config and replaced with with my buddy's minorly tweak config... and set to work again for hours, testing piece by piece.
