So essentially... it's still the Wii... with better graphics... and the console is rounded... and the designer figured that ergonomics aren't needed in a controller.
Ok, now here comes the massive mind****. I can't even describe this.
Lets use Xbox and Kinect as an example. With the xbox, your interaction is based from the controller yes? Kinect allows you to use your body actions in certain games. It's not the basis of gameplay right? Wii seemed to be the opposite. The control was all based on the movement of users, which ended up being what the Wii was all about. Using the classic controller, gamecube, what ever you want, is the players choice, but that's not the main way that devs would've made it to be played.
With the Wii U I'm still unsure whether you've got the controller as the base form of controlling it, but still having that element of being able to use your body to control stuff, or if there's a middle ground between both. Are they simply going to cull most of the motion sensing stuff (keep it for some, get rid of most, if not all for other games) to try and take their shot at going big?
Tbh, I can't even be bothered with talking about this thing anymore. Long story short, I wouldn't get one. Others might and hey, each to their own, but it seems like their half reinventing something that they should've made previously.
Krit - Nothing says sleek like a big red SYNC button on a bloated piece of white plastic.
Obviously it's just a concept at the moment.
I doubt that. That will most likely be the final design
P.S I love my Wii and I still use it to date. I can't wait for this new console as nintendo seems to be the only one I can trust to bring good quality story driven games that I can play and know that they will be good.
I find the WiiU to mostly appeal to hardcore nintendo fans. I've had pretty much ALL of their hardware, bar the NES/SNES. I personally cant wait to play my favourite ninty games in high def.
Hopefully they can FINALLY do something about upgrading their online, although it will never match up to LIVE, seeing as no one has as much resources as M$
For people who need clarification on what the console is (ie Dalla)
What was displayed at the conference is just the Controller (My first impression, were similar to Dalla but after looking into it in-depth and reflecting on a similar experiences, for example, iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab[note which is very similar size to that of the WiiU controller]) it would actually be very fun gaming experience. Personally, why would you make a controller intentionally uncomfortable?
Now from a hardware perspective of the WiiU, it is rumored to be using a Power7 CPU which is one EXTREMELY powerful CPU by IBM, the GPU specifications have not been released but are rumoured to be a Custom Chip by AMD/ATI and similar to that of the R700.
All existing Wii game and peripherals will be able to be transferred onto this system while also having the ability to use these different control methods in games that would support them (Like what the Wii had if you had a Gamecube controller). The link below will show you the controller demonstration video from their Conference.
Next link are Third party games (Yay, third party games for the Wii)
What damaged the Wii was the lack of good quality third party games for it. I believe this wont be the case with Nintendo's new console as it offers more then it's competitors while still retaining some conventional aspects that can make it easy to port.
This seems like less of a risk then what the Wii was and more of a bonus for current Wii users and even new buyers as well. Personally, I am a PC gamer but find that Xbox and PS3 offer no advantages compared to a PC, if I wanted to play COD(whatever it is up to now, Black ops?), I would just buy it for PC but heck, most of those games are the same damn thing.
The only gripe I really have is the name... Damn it sucks and I do worry about the price of it.
Each to their own though, Better off playing on something you like rather then bitching about how bad it is.
Nice write-up. EB are taking pre-orders for the console at $599. Of course that will most likely change but gives some idea to the price range they're expecting for it, I'd say they would have had some communication from Nintendo regarding that. Hopefully it's region free and can be had for half that delivered. Doubt it.
Probably wont be, seeing as nintendo fail at stopping hacks so they just put region locks on everything. Especially seeing as it has native support for USB HDD's
Nintendo still have yet to finalize their system. But as another nice little advantage with 3DS owners in regard to the new Super Smash Bros, is that 3DS owners and players will be able to play with/against other WiiU players/3DS players and vice versa.
Another note, is that Miyamoto has also state that Pikmin 3 is in Development for the WiiU.
Pictures don't do the system justice unfortunately.
i think that the concept of this is pretty cool, like how your able to switch off the game on the tv but able to continue ur game on the portable controller
I will be buying it for sure. I don't even mind the design, it looks like a mini DVD player. Don't know what some people expect, a Scultpure of Mario, where you lift the head to put the game in?
I've been playing Nintendo since I was 2. When you have been with them that long, you start to understand why they do certain things. It's about keeping the integrity of their brand. We all know they "family friendly". Yes we can wish they would have more hardcore hitting games for all the serious gamers, but I think that is why we all just end up with more than one console to begin with.
We will always want Nintendo to branch over into the more hardcore gaming systems, because it would make it so much easier to just have one console. I personally know what I'm getting into when I buy mu Nintendo systems. I know I will have to get something for my PC or various other system due to them not having it. Sometimes that can suck, but it's part of the industry.
I think they do a good job at making new little added features here and there. I would be willing to be they will be the first to create a fully immersive system, to port you right into the game. Might not be for a long while, and yes the first game might be mario or zelda, or something equally kid friendly, but would we enjoy it less?
*I wasn't commenting on any one person's views, I was just speaking my mind on what I was gathering from different convos I have had recently about this*
