Metabans is a community based network, for both individuals and groups, to allow for the simple and fast sharing of bans across multiple servers, as well as allowing bans from other communities to be enforced on your server, simply by following other users.

Metabans essentially turns a single community into its own miniature version of pbbans where other communities can opt in to its ban list. Rcon tools report player sightings to Metabans, which then tells the rcon tool to enforce the ban if it exists, even if the original ban was not made on that community's server.
While this could lead to localised witch hunts of players that are simply good at the game, it is up to a community to use its better judgement on whose ban lists to follow.

Metabans is currently compatible with both Procon and Big Brother Bot.

Supported games include:

  • CoD4
  • CoD5
  • CoD6
  • CoD7
  • BF:BC2
  • MoH
  • Homefront

So what's with coming on our TS and insulting Zaeed via a pm if you honestly don't give a crap?

If you have an opinion, state it here....

cool post, it doesn't help.

I think if this were to work long-term, it would need to have a way of sorting through the bans for people being annoying, and people actually hacking. If someone were to be banned from pretty much every server just because of one admin being uptight, then it just wouldn't work.

That's why you choose who you follow.. Think of it like Twitter, where you only see things regarding people you follow. You can also whitelist players, so even if they are banned by people you follow, they can still play on your server.

There are nice and simple ways to comment on players, and also comment on player assessments. So if you find yourself banned by an admin, you can post questions regarding that ban if you want.

There are however a large number of server admins that frequent these forums. Thus the thread title.

Didn't look to much into this, but isn't it the same thing as http://aussiepunksbusted.com/ ?

AFAIK they stream to a fair amount of clan run BC2 servers, including our own when we had one.

The difference between Metabans and AussiePunks is that AussiePunks only picks up on punkbuster violations.
Metabans is driven by the community, so people can be banned for teamkilling etc

I think this idea is pretty cool.

Even if it is slow on the up-take, at least those early adopters are likely to be worthy followers. These people would have legitimacy behind their bans. ie. no one wants an acclaimed troll on their server; so you see that these other admins say this person is online just to cause trouble... then you could act accordingly.

If someone is suss, see what other people think... then, again, you could act accordingly... would just have to emphasize that when there is no hard proof of something such as hacking... reasoning should be 'suspected hacking'. So each admin could make their own assessment.

You would have to be a right Ba-tard to think that this could work against you. If you think it would work against you, then it is doing its job isn't it.

Ahh okay. So for instance if a player gets banned from one server for teamkilling, will that ban carry over to other servers who stream it as well?

Not at all... Its more like what snipez said about it being like the facebook of bans. You can follow banned players around or follow server admins, and see what they have been banned (if it is for tking, being a douche, suspected hacking, etc. ) for and then decide for yourself if you want those players on your server.
