Finally we saw zlr lineup against fraze in the semi-final of the 4seasonsgaming division1 duel league! We had mindconfusion and mickzerofive in the stream pumping out the action and we were all set for a great match. It would be a best of 5 semi final where the winner would advance to the grand final to face the winner of the match between Ventz and Kiddie. It was all on the line in this match and zlr came out strong securing the first two maps but after a resurgence from fraze in the 3rd and fourth map it was all down to the decider where zlr clinched the victory to secure his place in the grand final.
With a 3-2 victory securing his place in the grand final we sat down with zlr and threw down some questions about his thoughts leading into the game and also how he felt points of the match played out.

And the interview with zlr:
Heading into the match Tim, how much did you know about fraze and his playing style?
I don't know much about his style. We hardly ever played practice games together because he plays on Perth or Adelaide servers and I stick to Sydney servers. All I had to go on was when I played him in a one day duel comp a few months ago.
Did you feel confident going into the game?
I felt confident in terms of my aim and decision making. Because of the ping I tried to stay away from rocket and plasma fights as much as possible and stick to lg and rail.
For those that don't know you were in a 2-0 map lead coming into the 3rd map in the bo5. What was your plan of attack in 3rd map do you think you may have played a bit to reserved or maybe underestimated your opponent?
I didn't underestimate Fraze, however I was definitely a lot more relaxed and playing perhaps a bit too aggressive. I felt I could have won that map if I tried to play more defensive and focus on controlling the items more.
On aerowalk you were down 11-2 at one stage with less then 3 minutes left. For a short time it looked like you were surging into a comeback, talk us through what happened on that map?
I didn't have the best start this time so I was on the back foot for a long time. The problem was by the time I managed to get back into control I'd lost a lot of frags and trying to come back from an opponent who only has a goal of killing time is very difficult. He played better defensively than I did and controlled the items for most of the game without making many mistakes.
Furiousheights was a very close game what do you think was the turning points in that map that could have changed the outcome of the 8-7 Score line?
If I hadn't been so aggressive in some of the situations and focused more on keeping him at bay and stacking up on armour I could have secured a win before the last two minutes. The final nail in the coffin was when I attacked him in the last minute with hardly any armour and lost the fight, leaving me a frag down and spawning too far away to make an equalizing frag.
On the same map how many more Minutes or Seconds do you think you would've needed to maybe squeeze enough kills out for the win?
Another 10 seconds would have let me engage in one last fight and possibly force an overtime. But even then it would have been difficult as I only had a PG and he had rockets, lg and rail to play with.
Campgrounds, being a Duel map that is no longer played much in competitive QL, and favouring the person in control more so than any other map, how did you feel about this map being the decider?
Campgrounds has been around forever and I have played it to death in Q3 way before QL was in beta so it's always going to be a map I'll be confident on. However it's a catch 22 as you can get locked out of all 3 major items on the map quite easily and it takes something big to turn the tables. I was aware of the fact this could happen to me in the beginning, so my goal was to try and get into control as quick as possible off the first spawn and not make any mistakes in the first couple of fights over the big items.
At what point of the game on campgrounds did you feel like you had full control and do you think the game could have drastically changed if you were unable to get the initial frag with the lightning in the first fight?
The game could have slowed down if I didn't rush with the lg at the YA as both of us would be trying to get into the best position for the next red and possibly not wanting to commit to a fight. I felt I had secured control after I landed 2 rails on the 2nd red armour of the game, this allowed me to get the mega for free and the next ya and continue running the items on a bigger stack. If I didn't make that first frag I could have had big problems for the rest of the game. It was definitely an all in move.
Big thanks to Tim for taking his time out after the game to answer some questions and we hope you enjoy the interview.
