Due to the rapid decline in player numbers and the lack of interest in the recent
Brink Cup v2, it is time to close the doors on any potential future for the cybergamer.com.au Brink ladder.
In addition to the lack of player numbers there were some technical issues that would have required a decent amount of work on CG's part to adjust the website to support IDTech4 rcon commands. Without that work running a ladder in any sort of efficient manner would have been impossible. I am of the personal view that without a decent amount of teams or interest making those changes to the website would have been a waste of time.
To support this decision with some facts/numbers, here are the recent Steam Game stats:
Peak Today
87,276 -- Team Fortress 2
54,539 -- Counter-Strike
21,390 -- Sid Meier's Civilization V
48,751 -- Counter-Strike: Source
13,997 -- Terraria
22,363 -- Call of Duty Black Ops - Multiplayer
10,752 -- Left 4 Dead 2
8,311 -- Garry's Mod
27,209 -- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer
6,152 -- Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Brink isn't just not in the top 10, it is not even in the top 100. Despite these numbers, Splash Damage and Bethesda are still going to eventually (after two weeks) charge money for the DLC that was delayed until this month.
I'd like to thank the following people and teams for their efforts in giving this game a go:
Asterix and CG - Asterix for his never ending patience and support and CG for allowing us to give this game a go.
Neg - For his valuable technical support, server advice and hounding of Splash Damage developers on their forums.
Zephyr and Motion - For assisting with administration of the forums and first Quick Cup (have fun in Europe Motion, try not to father any illegitimate children).
Frenetic Array and Redux - For putting up with all the nade spam in the Brink Quick Cup final and "on-the-fly" rule changes.
Also thank you to all the other teams that were involved in the first Quick Cup.
For those teams that still have an interest in the style of gameplay Brink offered (objective stop watch) but want a dedicated competition mod, please consider (or re-visit) the
Wolfenstein Enemy Territory ladder (free game!). It is fully supported competitively and we broadcast as many matches as possible over at
GamesTV.org.
