I think the red is to do with the avi rendering part of the process, not the mp4 encoding. When my avis have come up red on the timeline it was just a glitch that went away... maybe try a different codec.

eASY H264 by ajax is really good, but I set the preset up to brassemmense for that extra quality, anything above extreme 720p is good though.
