Since the other thread went to $hit, I thought I would make this one.

There seems to be a bit of confusion about what was actually announced today. Australia is NOT limiting gaming to 18+ but pushing for an R18+ classification to allow for extreme games to be sold in Australia rather than being declined sale in Australia or censored to meet the current MA15+ classification.

This thread ( http://www.cybergamer.com.au/forums/thread/258656/Gaming-18/ ) was actually hilarious to read as many people thought that they would no longer be able to play games legally.

Anyways, back to the announcement that was made today:

Quote:
Gamers have spent years lobbying for an adults-only rating, arguing it would allow for more mature themes to be canvassed in games while also assuring fewer adult games slip through with MA15+ ratings.

At a meeting of attorneys-general today there was an in-principle agreement to introduce the R18+ classification, however, NSW Attorney-General Greg Smith abstained from the vote, arguing the matter would have to be taken to the cabinet for a decision.

Good, and bad.
People over 18 will be happy.
I can imagine the MA15+ rating getting used less and less now though.

Sounds like a good idea. Games with adult theme like GTA should be pushed into the 18+ category while games like GoW stays MA15+ because parents don't realize the extent of what slips into MA these days. I've seen 10 year old's playing GTA which is horrifying and parents would think twice about doing that if they saw it was 18+.

i don't really care that much if it's approved or not but majority of the uncensored versions can be bought off ebay and the like and usually at much cheaper prices anyways.

Lol? A game with cops gangsters, drugs, women, bars, strip clubs, crashes, robberies an all the rest, its based off real life, these kids have prob seen it in the movies, i dont see how 10 is still to young for a kid to learn about guns seeing as though most of us had the coppers come into our school when we were younger then that an give us the lesson blah blah, nothing is wrong with it, there is violence there is what there is in everyday life, that most people refuse to acknowledge its a game it dosnt make a kid go all crazy an want to take a school hostage because he practiced on GTA the night before.

Games are different when it comes to age, ive played all these games since ive had the ps1 nintendo 64 an super ness i didnt see DOOM or killer instincts get the your kid is too young crap, so i dont see why people should start now. Movies are on a different lvl R18 yeah of course you dont want your kid watching same goes for m15 until they are around 12+ who the hell wouldnt let their kid watch a M or MA15+ until their actually 15 thats ludicrous so of course they start getting into em at early ages, because the mind matures an they start getting out of the G an PG section of movies, same can be said for games.

I mean if Pac-Man effected us kids, we'd all be running around darkened rooms munching magic pills, listening to repetitive electronic music

probably wont happen for old games now, but for any new games coming in that they feel need this rating will get it and we will be able to experiance the full game how its ment to be. i think it would cost the game developers to much money now making patches just to suit aus gamers, but i hope for mortal kombat they can atleast open up the online part of the game for aus players so we can play it online now lol.

also i hope cod gets an R18 rating lol
