Leaked AMD Roadmap Has A 10-Core Desktop CPU For 2012
Man, we're still waiting for FX-Series chips with up to 8 'Bulldozer' cores to finally arrive, but if you believe the slide after the jump, next year's 'Komodo' desktop CPUs will have up to 10 'Piledriver' (aka enhanced Bulldozer) cores. Spiffy!

That could mean a short life for socket AM3+, as the leaked "Corona" platform will use a new FM2 package and feature the Hudson D4 chipset supporting four USB 3.0 ports and 8 SATA 6Gps ports. The revamped 32nm Komodo CPUs will have AMD's Turbo Core 3.0, which will improve on this year's Bulldozer chips with Turbo Core 2.0.

Not too excited over it. Intel's per-core performance shit's all over AMD. AMD need to cram in more cores/higher clocks just to keep up.

They're spending an awfully long time on the 32nm process

there's actually people in this world who use computers not for gaming you know, avg computer doesn't need a 2600K and 12GB of ram.

AMD is for budget builds.

I know a few people who do encoding & virtual machines who would be excited about more cores

Hey, I am personally an Intel fan.
AMD have "claimed" that they will shit all over Intels e-ivy socket. Claiming that they are buffing up the prices on there CPU's and competing with Intel. Basically it's AMD's last punt into the market to be the TOP cpu, not the shitty ones you buy when you don't quite have enough for the Intel.
Not to mention Intel have delayed release of the 2011 socket to the year 2012 (Funny as, part of the pin count 2011 was the irony of releasing it in the year 2011, not 2012). Shouldn't expect these guys till Q2-2012

AMD being AMD, I wouldn't just go buy one without seeing several reviews of the Chips.

Sorry i have been to so many sites looking at the up coming technology.
I do believe there was some articles on guru3d, and tomshardware.
And a small leaked picture

Also, AMD bulldozer is based on the "Sandy Bridge" design

Looks good, although most 2600k's can do 4.7ghz without touching the voltage....

Ivy will be interesting.....

TBH the tech is getting faster but for no real reason... Need to focus on low heat / low power requirements...

This ^

Can say the same about all PC hardware at the moment.

As for:

its basically.

Replace 'budget' with 'value'. The vast majority of people who get intel cpu's never even use half the potential of their overpriced chip. For the hardcore overclocker then intel all the way, but for the all the scrubs on here posting the "build me a pc" thread crap, the performance difference for what they use it for is exceptionally negligible. The cost difference sadly is not.
