This is a thread to look over CGPS3's history on Black Ops, the good and the bad parts! First and foremost, a big shoutout and thank you to PS3's Staff, whether your an Admin or an Referee your making CGPS3 what it is today
First of the Release.
Release
Call of Duty: Black Ops was released on the 9th of November, 2010. Everyone was awaiting to see what Treyarch had install for us, whether it would be good or bad, we would soon find out. Many players flocked to Midnight Releases or waited a few days, eventually most players had bought a copy So now that everyone has a copy, everyone begins to pub to find out what Black Ops was made of. First impressions were mixed, we saw immediate glitches and flaws in the game that we all would hope developers would fix, however we also saw great additions to the game like the much loved Theater. After a few days of playing public, a few minute group moved onto Scrims, and this was the beginning of competitive gaming on Black Ops.
Beginning of Competitive Gaming on Black Ops
CGPS3 has come along way since the release of Black Ops, from small scrims and pugs were nobody knew what they were doing to Thousand Dollar competitions, incredibly increasing our community and progress as a platform.
Like previously said, after a few days to a week of playing public, some players moved onto Scrims and Pugs to get a feel for what the competitive side of Black Ops was like. Being honest, this new game's competitive was odd at first, many people lost and confused at this kind of new competitive game, it was completely different to the previous Modern Warfare 2, maybe this was just because of a new developer.
During this time, the good ol' Admins were deciding the rulesets for this new game. Looking back on it, our ruleset has changed quite a bit, from half health to full health, and probably the most dramatic, the introduction of pre-set classes. So after a little while they got the first ruleset for SnD completed and thus CGo Season 1 had begun.
CGo Season 1
So we move into Season One of Black Ops! Everyone is excited and ready to see how it will go. It went fairly well, many teams loved playing on this ladder, some teams who were dominant on Modern Warfare 2 brought their form over to Black Ops, however some didn't and it showed! After that we kept crusing along fine, with some small adjustment to the ruleset. After a while, CGo Season 1 was over and the top 16 teams were placed into finals! Finals were great and some excellent matches were played, with Mindfreak.Razer coming out on top in Pros and Monsterz pulling an epic 3-2 comeback over Envious in Inters. The pro grand final between Silent but Deadly and Mindfreak can be viewed below. After CGo Season 1 we had short break and then we moved on to the first ever Pay to Play event on CGPS3 and CGo Season 2
5v5 Search and Destroy Pay to Play!
We were now in full swings with Black Ops, and now it was time for an never before seen even on CGPS3, a Pay to Play Competition! This revolutionised our console on terms of competitive gameplay and progression as a whole with the involvement of cash prizes into winnings. We saw many teams step up and take charge, putting effort and dedication into playing all with the intention of winning a cash prize. In the end, the two truly best teams were in the GF, Mindfreak.Razer and Malisis. The Grand Final was a great match to watch, with some great contests throughout the match, Malisis were the victors and they truly deserved it going undefeated throughout the entire competition, the match can be viewed below. While the Pay to Play event was running, the second season of Black Ops SnD was running as well.
CGo Season 2
During the first ever Pay to Play, the second season of Search and Destroy and other ladders was happening. Teams competing in the Pay to Play were not allowed to compete in Search and Destroy CGo at the same time, when there team was knocked out of the competition then they would be relegated to CGo and then they would be allowed to compete. Soon after the beginning of CGo, the Admin Team announced that we were going to have another Pay to Play event, this time in the format of 4v4 Objective! However both of these 2 events were halted with one of the worst things to hit CGPS3, the PSN Outage, which will be discussed later on as well as the 4v4 P2P. After the PSN was back up we got right back into the swing of things, with many months of playing and teams being relegated back into CGo we were at Finals Time, many of teams come CGo Season 1 finals were back again to compete, however some new teams appeared to bring a challenge. In the end, we saw Mindfreak.Razer return again to another Grand Final but this time they were unsuccessful, losing to Beyond in an excellent match.
4v4 Objective Pay to Play
We had recently seen how a Pay to Play competition plays out, however that was at a Search and Destroy level, now it was time to see a Pay to Play event play out at an Objective level! We hadn't seen much objective gameplay before this event, with many Search and Destroy based teams coming over to compete, however many objective based clans and teams stepped up to the plate to compete. Throughout the comp, we saw many teams surprise us with their objective skills, with some not very well known teams proving their worth and some teams who were expected to go great be knocked out earlier then expected. In the end we saw Mindfreak.Razer, who are an objective based team display their skills and defeat surprised grand finalists Epidemic in a 4 map Grand Final, a great match.
PSN Outage
The PSN Outage has been one of the worst things to hit CGPS3 in the entire history of this platform on CG. It caused major disruptions to the second season of the Black Ops ladders and also to the 4v4 Objective Pay to Play, putting them both weeks behind schedule. The outage also caused some people to buy an Xbox and jump ship over to the Xbox side of things. However when the outage was over, out platform has recovered and gained many more members and hitting the 10,000 Members mark!
CGo Season 3
We are now at the 3rd season of Black Ops CGo, will the teams who have been great performers retain their form this season, or fall from the top? Will unknown teams prove to be a challenge? All these and many more questions will be answered in the coming months. We are also nearing the end of Black Ops and coming ever closer to the release of Modern Warfare 3. Information regarding these ladders will be released shortly.
Wrap up
Overall, Black Ops has had it's up and downs, with things like hit registration and connection issues plaguing the PS3 version of Black Ops and not the Xbox version being it's downfall on PS3, but things like the Pay to Play Events have greatly evolved out platform in terms of competitive nature and progression as a whole. I think the positives greatly outweigh the negatives and that we should all be proud of what has occurred in the past year
Now on the 8th November 2011, this cycle will begin all over again with the new release of Modern Warfare 3. I would say the highly anticipated Modern Warfare 3, but lets be honest, were not as excited for this game as we have been in the past for previously released Call of Duty titles, why is this? Because we don't want to get our hopes up and be let down once again. Lets just hope Modern Warfare 3 will impress our ever evolving standards.......
I'm out, if you read all of it then i'm impressed.
