well after getting my orgasmic new DA black edition. I have noticed a huge amount of things i like about the mouse and it is by far a vast improvement on my previous ( mamba ). The issue I have is that the lift off distance is incredibubble. I can hold it what feels like 1cm from the pad and it still tracks. This is somewhat frustrating as it mires the level of awesome that this mouse presents. I am just curious if there is anything that can be done to reduce the distance from the pad which it tracks at. Or will i just have to love it?

Yeah when I opened and used my Black edition I noticed a substantially larger lift of distance than on the DA V1, on my old Ikari optical I used some clear sticky tape on the bottom to just cover the laser, but it didn't really work for this mouse, I think it reduced the lift off a bit. I found that after a week Ive gotten used to the lift off now though, your hand learns to lift the mouse higher, and I'm a super low sens player

Either tape mod it or get used to it.
BTW, DA 3.5/BE's Avago S3888 sensor has 3.6mm (3x CDs) LOD on a standard black surface (i.e qck)

I dont like the look of the Black edition, it looks kinda cheap.

I've actually done the tape mod to my da and there are no problems in terms of tracking. As lantern said, the LOD is 3.6mm, but with the tape mod it's below 1.2mm. It's essential that you use scotch 'magic' tape. Here is a pic of my mouse.

That's an insult to the Filco Master Race, nothing comes before a Filco.

Well...
Used my phone to take the pic but my phone is plugged into my comp as I'm tethering(in the process of changing ISP's). The cable wasn't long enough to reach so I pushed my kb up and dragged my mousepad across.

Nice to know what you took out of that pic.

Yeah I've got tape on my DA Black as well, didn't effect the tracking too much.

Make sure you use 3M scotch tape.
