Laptop's overheat/stuff up more than pc. Recommend getting a really good pc and a cheap as laptop, for uni. Unless he's getting a 1000-2000$ laptop.

Is there any other laptop other than mac that can last over 5 hours?

Sony vaio's are overpriced and parts are harder to get.

I will probably tell him to get the mac then.

i recently bought a hp pavilion dv7

8gb ram
2gb graphics
17" screen
2 x 750gb HDD
windows 7 home prem 64bit
intel core i7 2360 (those numbers dont sound correct)

but yeh it was 2000
i got it fr 1581 cus my dad kept talking the guy down

I have a dv7 also, battery life is only con.

Tell him not to get an ACER Aspire

Once you get a Mac you'll wonder why you ever even had a windows based pc.

Anyone at HN are ******ed, I use mine at uni and it lasts all day at uni for me. I get about 5-6 hours battery life doing word processing and internet surfing. you won't find anything that lasts for longer then that and isn't a mac. Someone websites say they last for 6+, 8+ etc, but they prob all use different methods to test that stuff. I'm sure I could get 8 hours + if I turned wifi off and turned my brightness down and didn't use it.

For what your doing you DO NOT need an i7, an i5 is fine. And Macbooks are way more over priced the sony, and the OS is crap. If i ever got a mac the first thing I'd do is put windows on it

Either the MacBook Airs or Pros, great for school/Uni Work and can run games at decent settings.
