right click Computer/My Computer --> properties --> Device manager.
is your drive showing up here?
oh.. and just saw relapses post, this is probably the best solution, lol.
hmmm.
this isn't a bios problem, because if it wouldn't show up in device manager or my computer, it couldn't and wouldn't show up in bios peripherals section because it isnt recognized. The leds show because there is power going from the motherboard, to the adapter, through the 4-pin connector to the drive.
This probably has to do with that ide adapter and the 4pin connector. So its a connection problem.
From what you have said, your dvd drive isnt new, given the fact that you need a ide to sata adapter.
Give us the make and model of the dvd drive, and your mother board type, so we can research it. It could be a number of things. Take a look at the sata port numbers on the motherboard. is the sata cable in the right port?Assuming your motherboard is new, the format on the ports should be 0/1/2/3/4. So obviously, the 0 port would be the hard drive, so check to see you have put it in sequential order. Also, make sure the 4-pin thing has direct access to the power supply connector. All it takes is a misplaced connected connector and nothing will show up.
It would be so much easier getting a new dvd drive. You can get one for under 40 bucks.
good luck!
