Keyboards last me for years and about 5 of them ago I started to use a Logitech G15 keyboard for anything PC gaming related. The keyboard followed me to numerous PC gaming LAN events both local (Perth Australia) and distant (Alienware in Sydney). This keyboard took part in hours of game play and helped me obtain more than $10,000 in prizes over the last 2 years from my gaming hobby. I say this in hope of context, I will use this keyboard for "Competitive Gaming", I will talk dribble about gaming and express views based on scientific measures such as "feelings" and "what I reckon".
The old Logitech decided to start failing on me with keys sticking and no longer performing their one goal in life "working". I just like anyone else prefer my keyboards working and thus went on the hunt for a suitable replacement. As I am a self-professed hardware junkie I sort the advice of other hardware junkies and murmurs of a mechanical keyboard called the Filco Majestouch could not be ignored. Having used a large number of keyboards over the years, albeit not a mechanical keyboard, I was sceptical towards the high level of praise this keyboard was receiving.
My first option when looking at the range offered by Filco was what kind of Cherry MX Switches I wanted my new keyboard to come populated with. The choices were coded as either Black, Blue or Brown, each providing a different character when pressed. The Black was described as linear, non-clicky, non-tactile and requiring the most force to actuate the switch. The Brown as tactile, non-clicky and the lightest to operate. With the Blue sitting in the middle of the force scale with both clicky and tactile feedback.
As my mindset was on competitive gaming speed felt like a priority so the Black switch was out, needing what sounded like excessive force to get the job done. With this sort of high-tech reasoning the Brown was selected as the weapon of choice and I pressed the order button on a Filco Majestouch 2 Tenkeyless Cherry Brown Mechanical Keyboard.
