Sami Makinen, Sampsa (Sampsa) Kurri, Petri (SF3D) Korhonen, and Pete Hardman managed to push the long-awaited Bulldozer to 8.43 Ghz and had the record registered by the Guiness Book of Records as the fastest frequency for a computer CPU ever, beating the previous 8303 Mhz held by an older Intel CPU. The sample of the AMD FX CPU was a 8-core model and liquid Helium was used for the event, wich was held on 31 August.
The game changer we've all been waiting for? Only time will tell. However, it is still an engineering sample, so it could only get better. Sure some of us will still buy Intel but its important that AMD come up with a competitive chip so enthusiasts and gamers don't pay an arm an a leg for a CPU. Intel may choose to reveal their hand at Intel Developer Forum. This fourth quarter will surely be exciting one for the tech and gaming industries.
