Just wondering who uses 3rd party programs to upload their big HD YouTube vids. I've not really looked into it much but I'm uploading at the moment and its gonna take a fair while. If you do, which one(s) is/are the best.

cheers, Watson

[sorry if its not quite in the right section]

Yeah, I'm uploading a 10 minute video in .wmv file and it has a voice over and it is taking approximately 2 hours per upload. Ridiculous.

does youtube accept mp4 and flv? if so then upload with those formats, so much smaller compared to something like .mov and .avi.

In terms of filesize I did the following:

From videos I made in the past I recorded gaming footage with FRAPS, then used VirtualDub (using Xvid Compression) to make file smaller, but still have good quality. At the time the filetype will still be.avi .

After those steps, to make the filesize even smaller, I used a program called Xvid4PSP. You can convert the avi file to say a .mp4 or .mov and still get good quality vids.

i was under the impression that .wmv is the smallest format you'll get without compromising the quality much

yes but wmv is also great for uploading but only limited pc, while avi and mov are compatiable with macs and pcs.

for uploading YT vids. Compress raw video's using H264 and save as mp4 etc. FLV works too.

Depending on quality, uploading a 10 min vid should only take 30 mins or so. Naturally, your upload speed would come into play as well.

@Apex. A 6 min video shouldnt be anywhere near 700mb.

assuming you are making your own videos. Either using Fraps, demo recording or digital camera. Fraps and demo recording will produce a raw avi video file. There is no compression, hence why they are very large.

If you are going to edit your video in Sony Vegas, After Effects etc. then at the end of this process you will create a large (most likely) avi file as well. These will not be compressed.

In order to put these on YT you should compress the video. The best method is to use H264. Then save the file as either flv or mp4.

An easy way to do this is to use Easy H264.
