"Our game focuses on this battlefield experience. We give you so many tools; you can choose your vehicles, your weapons, your class. We want to win over the hardcore guys who may be on the fence. We want to do that with Frostbite 2. It's 30 frames per a second on console, but we have destruction, vehicles, a new animation system. It's not about a number. It's about the full experience."

Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
Frostbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written

FROSTBITE 2

This state-of-the-art technology is the foundation on which Battlefield 3 is built, delivering enhanced visual quality, a grand sense of scale, massive destruction, dynamic audio and character animation utilizing ANT technology.

"We wanted to create the most immersive and emotionally powerful Battlefield game ever and we needed new technology to deliver on our vision," said Patrick Bach, Executive Producer.

Having built Frostbite 2 over the course of the last three years, this is not a minor iteration of what DICE has used before. Frostbite 2 has been built from scratch to match the design goals for Battlefield 3 and beyond.

"Where other shooters are treading water Battlefield 3 innovates. Frostbite 2 is a game-changer for shooter fans. We call it a next-generation engine for current-generation platforms." said Karl Magnus Troedsson, General Manager DICE.

There are 5 key pillars which define the Frostbite 2 experience from a technical and artistic point of view:

    Animation
    Destruction
    Scale
    Audio
    Rendering

ANIMATION
When looking to improve the animations of the soldiers, DICE actually thought about using other engines, such as Havoc, to do this. Then they saw the ANT system, used in EA sports games like FIFA, which operates a series of plug-ins that anyone at EA could use. DICE has integrated this into Frostbite 2.0, but they've added their own variances. Now, there are two separate sets of animations for AI characters and multiplayer characters, and the AI moves with more sense of purpose. Their behaviour is conditioned by waypoint technology that issues directives depending on the character's location and other actions in the vicinity. The characters that you play have also altered. Soldiers now move their heads and guns before they move their bodies, and they transition aggressively into and out of cover. The animations are seamless between running and dropping to the floor, and are more believable behaviour than ever seen before in shooters, rendering ultra realistic player animations.

DESTRUCTION 3.0
It will also feature enhanced in-game destruction with Destruction 3.0, creating more refined physics than its predecessor. Destruction is enhanced on both a macro and micro level. Chips fly off blocks of concrete used for cover, while whole facades and buildings collapse in screeching clouds of dust and debris. Feel the impact of bullets and explosions, drag your fallen comrades into safety, and mount your weapon on almost any part of the terrain. Battlefield 3's cutting edge animation, spectacular visuals and real as hell battle gameplay attack your senses and make you feel the visceral warrior's experience like no other FPS.

SCALE
Simply put, in Battlefield 3 you will be able to engage in some of the largest maps ever created. Operation Firestorm wil fit 3 x Heavy Metal maps (the largest BadCompany 2 map) into its centre....and thats not including its home bases.

AUDIO
Building on acclaimed High Dynamic Range (HDR) audio from previous Battlefield games, Battlefield 3 builds on the best-in-class legacy with a brutally realistic soundscape. The sounds of war were recorded during a Swedish military exercise that featured infantry combat, tanks and helicopters. Samples were collected from various distances; this will make it easier for players to use audio cues during the game. For example, the footsteps of a nearby soldier in the same house will be more audible than the shots that are being fired between two soldiers in a confrontation outside of the building. Players will be able to hear the difference between when a vehicle is facing you, and when it is moving in another direction. Sound effects will also be the key cue to inform you when a gun is about to overheat, rather than the previous visual cues.

According to recent tweets from DICE voice over producer Tomas Danko, Battlefield 3 will feature the largest amount of voice over variations "ever recorded for a multiplayer FPS", and that there are over 300 variations of "man down" event. Also foreign language voice over will have the option of being said in English, but unlike other Battlefield games, this time, they'll be said in "broken English", with an accent. Danko also said there's a lot more swearing in Battlefield 3 than in Bad Company 2, which itself had a lot of explicit words

Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats

RENDERING
Frostbite 2 now enables deferred shading, dynamic global illuminatoin and new streaming architecture.

The pre-calculations of this engine mean that the correct lighting can be done in a fraction of time it used to need. DICE have integrated a "probe system", where probes are placed in each level with important information of the level of light needed in that particular area. Each probe contains more information than an entire level of Bad Company 2.

At 2010 SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques), EA DICE gave many presentations on progresses and advances in their rendering technology:

Tile-based deferred shading acceleration via DirectCompute (application programming interface), and is being ported to the PlayStation 3's SPUs; MLAA (Morphological Anti-Aliasing), which again executed with DirectCompute, for bandwidth conservation; Quasi-realtime radiosity; much better environment destruction and real-time approximated subsurface scattering.

What does this mean for the overall playing experience? It means many things! The explosions will be more realistic, the sounds will be more earth shattering, and the graphics will give you goose bumps. Even though a game using the Frostbite 2 engine hasn't been released yet, it's creating quite a buzz in the gaming community.

The updated Frostbite 2 engine can realistically portray the destruction of buildings and scenery to a greater extent than previous versions.[28] Unlike previous iterations, the new version will be able to support dense urban areas

BF3 TO RUN AT 720p / 30 fps

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will run at 30fps and 720p. But not quite.
DICE has revealed that Battlefield 3 runs at 1280 x 704 resolution on consoles, which is just 16 horizontal lines short of true 720p. But unlike other games that run at a lower resolution, Battlefield 3 won't be upscaled, instead, there will be two small black bars (just 8px high) at the top and bottom of the screen. If the image was scaled, it would "just ruin the picture", as DICE rendering architect Johan Andersson

According to Anderson, removing the 16 lines of resolution increases performance and saves memory.
While both Microsoft and Sony stipulate that games support at least 720p resolution, many games, including Halo and Call of Duty, actually run at a lower resolution and are then upscaled, for performance issues. For instance, Call of Duty Black Ops ran at 1040 x 608, while the last few Halo games ran at 1152 x 640. Both were upscaled to 720p (1280 x 720).

1.5 GB TEXTURE PACK FOR XBOX 360
Battlefield 3 will ship with low-res textures, while players will have the ability to install higher resolution textures on the Xbox 360 hard drive. Now it's been confirmed that the install takes up 1.5 GB of disk space.Bach pointed out that the high-res textures do make a big difference to Battlefield 3. He said, "It does make a difference, yes, absolutely. The whole engine is based around streaming textures, streaming terrain and a lot of other content."
Xbox 360 owners can rest assured that Battlefield 3 will indeed look awesome on their console

SINGLE PLAYER
Battlefield 3 will feature a fully fledged singleplayer campaign, which will span from Iraq/Iran, to Paris, France, and to New York City as well. The first portion of the campaign is set on the border of Iran/Iraq, and has the player assuming the role of Sgt. Black, who is part of a Marine unit that is tasked on a mission to investigate possible insurgents, when your squad comes under fire. Here's the first 12 minutes of the campaign in Battlefield 3:
www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=F87u-pWSX28

CO-OP
Every mission in co-op is a new experience. We wanted to create the ultimate mix of play styles for you and a friend, said David Spinnier.

The co-op missions in Battlefield 3 take place in the same world as the single player campaign, and follows a unique series of events that lead up to an explosive finish. Players in co-op will take the role of soldiers that are not tied to any one particular branch of the Armed Forces. This is an intentional design decision to allow for a vast variety in gameplay in the different co-op missions.

Lend a helping hand
To survive through the co-op missions, you'll need to stay close to your buddy. If he goes down, lend a helping hand with the new co-op "Man down!" mechanic, that lets you revive him in the heat of battle. While being down, you can still use your secondary weapon to defend yourself, while slowly crawling to a safer spot where your friend can help you without getting shot. If both of you go down, it's game over.

You fight together. You die together. And you score together. After having cleared a co-op mission with your friend, your total combined score will be displayed via Battlelog, our suite of free social features that connect all Battlefield 3 players. Missions are designed to be shorter than single player missions, so you can easily do multiple rounds in an evening to try and beat your friends' high score. The best score of your Friend will be displayed for each mission, so you know what to aim for.

Difficulty is high. Spinner and his colleagues are going for a tough challenge in all missions. Also, since competitive players will likely try each mission several times, all of the co-op missions contain randomized elements to keep every playthrough fresh. Clearing the co-op missions not only gives you scores and bragging rights – it also has benefits for your multiplayer career. There are a number of weapons that you can unlock in co-op and take with you to the regular multiplayer modes. These unlocks are based on your combined scores ackumulated throughout the co-op campaign.

MULTIPLAYER

Multiplayer is the heart and soul of Battlefield, and Battlefield 3 delivers the best multiplayer experience in the series, with huge maps, lots of vehicles and weapons, and a deep persistence feature, there's enough for many hours of gameplay.

FACTIONS
Battlefield 3 will feature two main factions: the US Marines (USMC), and the Russian forces. Both sides will have faction specific weapons to start with, although all weapons will be available as unlocks

US FORCES (USMC)

RUSSIAN FORCES

Most of the combat happens on the streets of the city, where each team only have one tank and one APC at their disposal.

GAME MODES
All 9 maps will play each game mode

Long standing classic Battlefield game modes Conquest and Rush are back in Battlefield 3, together with interesting new additions to make this our broadest and deepest Battlefield yet. From the close quarters infantry combat of Team Deathmatch and Squad Deathmatch to objective driven all-out vehicle warfare – Battlefield 3 has it all. All of the 9 huge multiplayer maps in Battlefield 3 adapt to all 5 game modes, effectively giving you 45 distinctly different multiplayer experiences to choose between. Without further ado, here are the five available multiplayer modes at launch in detail. What they are, what their respective goals are, and how they play.

Team Deathmatch
Availability: On all 9 maps
Players: 24 (12 vs. 12)
Focus: Team Based Infantry Combat
Goal: Eliminate a set number of enemy combatants
Winning the game: The team that reaches the set kill number first is declared the winner

Team Deathmatch is of the true classics when it comes to multiplayer game modes, and a game mode that makes its first appearance in a Battlefield game since the original Battlefield 1942. In Team Deathmatch, two teams of 12 players each duke it out on tight knit maps with a distinct infantry focus – there are no vehicles available in Team Deathmatch. For that quick instant action fix, this is the perfect game mode. For players new to Battlefield, this is a good place to start. Once you get the hang of the infantry gameplay, you can move on to deeper modes that include the signature vehicle warfare for which Battlefield is known and loved.

Squad Deathmatch
Availability: On all 9 maps
Players: 16 (4 squads of 4)
Focus: Squad Based Infantry Combat
Goal: Eliminate a set number of enemy combatants
Winning the game: The squad that reaches the set kill number first is declared the winner

Squad Deathmatch is a larger and more dynamic variety of deathmatch that also features the inclusion of an Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). The IFV can help break a deadlock, as long as you keep it alive with solid Engineer gameplay. The 4 squad setup means that there is a constant battle throughout the game to gain and maintain the lead. Sticking together, keeping your squad healed up, supplied, and repaired are the keys to victory. The squad that can combine the potent Battlefield mix of team play and combat prowess will be proven the winner.

Rush
Availability: On all 9 maps
Players: 24/32 (Console/PC)
Focus: Objective Based All-out Warfare
Goal: Attack/defend M-COM stations
Winning the game: Destroy all M-COM stations/Deplete the attacker's tickets (Attackers/Defenders)

First introduced in Battlefield: Bad Company, Rush has now made its way to the heart of the Battlefield series in Battlefield 3. An objective based mode, the attackers have to arm and detonate pairs of M-COM stations in each area of the map to unlock the next area and the next pair of M-COM stations. While defenders have an unlimited amount of spawn tickets, attackers only get new tickets every time they destroy a pair of M-COMs. If all M-COM stations on the entire map are destroyed, the attackers are declared the winning team. If the defenders manage to deplete the attacker's tickets to zero (by killing them), the defenders are declared the winners.

As an all-out warfare mode, Rush features a large variety of vehicle setups tuned specifically to that map's landscape and features. Players can find all types of vehicles on Rush maps, including transport vehicles, armored vehicles, helicopters, and of course, jets. Rush offers a compelling objective based all-out warfare game mode for Battlefield veterans.

If you are familiar with this game mode from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, you might want to know we are refining it for Battlefield 3 in a number of ways, based on player feedback. Some of the gameplay tweaks we are bringing to Rush are:
* You cannot use explosives or shoot at the M-COM to take it out. Only arm and disarm.
* If the attacking team arms the M-COM but runs out of tickets, the match will continue until the M-COM detonates or defenders disarm it
* If the defenders start disarming an M-COM just before it's about to blow, the explosion is prevented until the disarm is accomplished. If the defender gets killed during the disarm process, the M-COM will instantly blow

Squad Rush
Availability: On all 9 maps
Players: 8 (4 vs. 4)
Focus: Squad Based Infantry Combat
Goal: Attack/defend M-COM stations
Winning the game: Destroy all M-COM stations/Deplete the attacker's tickets (Attackers/Defenders)

Squad Rush is the ultimate test to show which squad is the best of the best. Squad Rush is an extremely tight duel between two squads that borrows the main rules from normal Rush, but in a much more intimate setting. In Squad Rush there are only 2 bases with 1 M-COM station per base, meaning that every M-COM taken or defended in Squad Rush is vital to the victory or defeat of the game. There are no vehicles in Squad Rush, so it's all down to your infantry fighting skills.

To be successful it's key that you and your squad mates customize your soldiers to complement each other on the battlefield, in order to keep reviving fallen mates, provide ammo, and perform other essential duties. Squad Rush is often favored by players who know each other's play styles intimately and want to show their skills in the most personal of combat settings.

Conquest
Availability: On all 9 maps
Players: 24/32 or 64 (Console/PC)
Focus: Objective Based All-out Warfare
Goal: Capture and Hold Flags
Winning the game: Deplete opposing team's tickets

Conquest is without a doubt the most classic of Battlefield game modes. Introduced in Battlefield 1942, Conquest has defined the entire Battlefield series (and influenced a lot of other games out there) and encompasses everything that makes Battlefield great. Set over a series of large-scale maps, Conquest is the game mode best suited for the experience of all-out vehicle warfare. In Conquest, two teams fight for control of a number of flags by being the dominant force in the vicinity of each base. Capture and keep control of a majority of the flags and the enemy team will bleed tickets. Killing enemies will also reduce their ticket count, and the first team to run out of tickets loses.

Conquest is a strategic and tactical game that often asks you to make important decisions on whether to attack an enemy base or defend one of your own. Your forces will rarely be enough to capture and hold every base on the map, so in-game communication and quick thinking is necessary to be victorious. Of all of the game modes we have invented here at DICE, Conquest will always have a special place in our hearts.

Tweak your game with Hardcore and Infantry Only settings

Not a fan of vehicles? No problem -- just click the "Infantry Only" box in your server browser when searching for a server game where no attack vehicles will spawn in, only transports. This is a great way to get a feel for the game or the map before you go all-out warfare.

Want a more lethal and tactical game mode where the risk and reward is even higher? With the Hardcore Mode setting, we are leaving you on the battlefield without much external help from the game interface. This game mode modifier will test the limits of your skills.

You can flick the Hardcore switch for any of the regular game modes. Doing so tends to turn matches into more deliberate and tactical affairs, since the penalty for being careless is higher. A lot of players prefer Hardcore Mode since it means that flanking and ambushing pays off to a higher degree, or because of the increased sense of immersion and authenticity that comes with removing user interface elements.

There is something for everyone in Battlefield 3's adaptable array of multiplayer modes, maps, and modifiers. Add our many customization options for vehicles, weapons and classes, and you can see why we call this our biggest and deepest Battlefield yet.

CLASSES (4 classes to choose from)

ASSAULT (Frontline, Versatile) http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-assault/
The Assault class carries a primary weapon consisting of an assault rifle - like the M16 and AK-74 - and is now merged with the medic class - the Assault class can now heal and revive teammates. It can also function as a more offensive class with ability to swap out the revive kit for a grenade launcher.

RECON (Range) http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-recon/
The Recon class carries a sniper rifle for long range engagement, but for Battlefield 3, the Recon class has a more active role as well. The Recon also has the ability to use a laser designator to mark targets.

SUPPORT (Team focus, heavy fire power) http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-support/
The Support class returns to its role it had in Battlefield 2, with its main purpose to provide heavy fire from a Light Machine Gun (like an M249 SAW), and resupply teammates with ammunition. In Battlefield 3, the Support class is broadened with the ability top use lighter weapons and assault rifles like the M4, as well as C4 explosives.

ENGINEER (Anti-Vehicle) http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-engineer-class/
The Engineer class in Battlefield 3 is very similar to the class in Bad Company 2: its primary role is to engage tanks and armored vehicles with an array of rocket launchers such as the RPG-7 and the SMAW, or use anti tank mines. The primary weapon is a carbine rifle, with a variety of unlocks available, ranging from shotguns to sub machine guns.

WEAPONS
As we know, there are 50 weapons in Battlefield 3, and each main weapon has three customization slots, which can be used for barrel, grip and optics accessories.Basically, each main weapon in the game has three accessory slots, where you can attach weapon accessories you have unlocked.

AUTHENTICITY - BUILDING GUNS FROM GROUND UP
Authenticity is really important when you're doing a modern day game like Battlefield 3. We know our players look critically at the guns in our games, so we brought in experts like Andy McNab. Our military advisors not only help us get it right, they help us understand why it's right."

Compared to both Battlefield 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, there is a larger focus in Battlefield 3 on authenticity and real life handling. This comes down to details like reloads, mobility, bullet trajectories, and even how the caliber and barrel length of a gun determines muzzle velocity and energy. For Alan, this approach clearly leads to better gameplay.

-- With authenticity as a base, you get a natural balance because all real life guns are based on trade-offs. It really pulls out the personality of each weapon system to use the authentic stats and features. Each army selects a different weapon, for a different reason, and we pass those selections on to our players."

Bullet velocity and Bullet drop are included in BF3

BIPODS
Bipods allow you to dramatically increase the stability of your weapon while backing up your team mates with cover fire. Players can deploy a bipod while standing/kneeling in front of a accessible object, such as a window sill or when zooming in with a LMG when proned.

- Increase Weapon Stability
- Allow Heavy Cover Fire

SUPPRESSION
This is a new in-game mechanic that will allow you to lay down fire at an opponent, but have it show up as a graphical blur on their screen. Suppression fire will be crucial for those lone-wolf players stuck in a 1v5 situation, scaring off the incoming enemy squad. The best part of all? You will also be rewarded with experience points!

- Flying Bullets appear blurry towards enemies, scaring them.
- Earn Experience Points

SPOTTING REVISED FOR BF3
One of the big complaints from gamers was the spotting system in the recent Battlefield games (most notably Bad Company 2), where enemies spotted would be marked, and the marker would stay on them even if the enemy retreated behind cover. This is why many referred to 3D spotting as wall hack.
Many have lobbied DICE to change the system, and it seems they've listened. According to DICE game designer Alan Kertz, the 3D spotting has been revamped in Battlefield 3. When you spot an enemy and he is in direct line of sight, a red marker will appear and will stay on the enemy as long as he is in your line of sight. If the enemy withdraws behind cover, the marker will disappear. However, the enemy will still be shown on the mini map for a set period of time.

Vehicles on the other hand, will always be marked, even if they retreat behind cover and you can't directly see them. It will also be possible to spot enemies while in "freelook" inside jets, helicopters and other vehicles.

KNIFING
it takes two strikes of the knife at the front of a player to kill them, and one strike to their back to kill them and take their dog tags

DEDICATED SERVERS
Stability, faster delivery of patches, fixes, no host advantage
Australian Servers - how the game should be played
Private Match Servers for clan matches. Also can be turned into unranked practice rooms
Server Browser - showing quality of connection, Map & game mode being played, player count

One of advantages PC gamers have had over consoles was the ability to pick and choose the multiplayer servers they played on. Now EA has confirmed that the server browser feature will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Battlefield 3. This makes Battlefield 3 one of the few multiplayer games on consoles that offers a server browser, where players are given more choice in terms of where to play, what maps to play on, game settings, game modes, and much more. A server browser for consoles was a requested feature from many Battlefield fans, and it finally looks like consoles will be getting some more love from DICE

PLATOON CREATION
With Battlelog, we are expanding the social aspect of playing Battlefield 3, and Platoons is one of the central concepts in doing that. Check out the Battlelog video above for a closer look at the social platform Battlelog as a whole. Read on for the full details on why being in a Platoon is the most engaging and rewarding way to play Battlefield 3.

A Platoon is essentially the classic concept of gaming clans, only taken to the next level of flexibility and social interaction. Anyone can start their own Platoon easily in Battlelog. Give your Platoon a name, a description, and an abbreviation, and then you're ready to start inviting friends through the slick Battlelog interface.

To personalize your Platoon, you can use the built-in emblem feature in Battlelog, where you pick and choose from ready-made shapes and templates and then place and format them to your liking. Up to 100 players can be part of a Platoon at any given time, and you can be a member of three different Platoons at the same time – you just need to select which of these you want to be active at any one time.

Every game you play will help your Platoon and will be tracked. Play for the glory of your Platoon

Every game you play when part of a Platoon (whether you play on your own or with other members) will count towards your Platoon's aggregate statistics, scores, and rank. Having a large pool of skilled players who play a lot of games is a good idea if you want to rise to the top in the Platoon-specific leaderboards.

Just like on an individual player level, the Platoon page will have detailed stats on how you are doing collectively. What's your record for winning and losing online? What's the breakdown of classes within your Platoon? Who is the most valuable player in your Platoon? What is the mean rank of your Platoon? and so on.

You also have a Platoon specific feed in Battlelog that will show everything that concerns your Platoon – people joining, internal chats, new match records for your members, and anything else you need to keep track of what is happening in your group of players.

Battlelog users can search for Platoons in their country or area, become fans of Platoons, or apply for membership. In the regular news feed for Battlelog, fans and friends can follow your latest progress and awards.

It's not just a group of people playing together, either – it's a large group of people where everything you do will ultimately have an impact on your Platoon's standing and be reflected in their statistics.

SQUADS MANAGEMENT ]
Up to 4 players each, with a squad leader
Squad leader can call in Artillery Strikes

BF3 TO HAVE 10 TIMES AS MANY UNLOCKS AS BADCOMPANY 2
Unlocks will be given based on the class you play as and the weapon you use, so if you use a weapon a lot, you'll get more unlocks for it, same goes for classes.

Regarding awards, the pins have been substituted for ribbons, which will be given out each round (e.g. 7 kills with assault rifles to get the Assault Rifle Ribbon), while it will also feature BF2 style medals, for example, the US service medal is awarded after playing 100 hours as the US Marines. Ranks will be as plentiful as in Bad Company 2, which had 50 ranks in total.

DICE PLANS FOR FULL YEAR TO UNLOCK EVERYTHING
We know that it'll take 100 hours to unlock every weapon and attachment per kit
On top of the unlocks, there are awards and DLC which will surely provide incentive for players to keep playing a long time after the release.

RIBBONS LIST http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-ribbons/
Ribbons in Battlefield 3 are awarded based on a number of criteria, from completing individual rounds, to reaching a certain amount of objectives, to obtaining a specific amount of points in a round

MEDAL LIST http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-medals/
Battlefield 3 features 50 medals which can be achieved by playing the multiplayer part of the game. The medals are awarded based on various criteria, such as time played with a faction, time played in a vehicle, amount of ribbons received, etc

DOG TAGS
Dog Tags are not a new feature to Battlefield 3, but developer DICE has expanded on the use of Dog Tags in the game. There are dozens of different dog tags players can use and customize in the game, most of them are unlocked by playing the game. Battlefield 3 Dog tags range from different ranks, to weapon achievements, to awards. E.g. earn a certain amount of ribbons, and you get dog tags to show off to those you kill with a knife. Here's a list of the different types of dog tags you can unlock in Battlefield 3

    Rank based dog tags
These dog tags are unlocked as you level up and reach new ranks.

    Weapon dog tags
There are dog tags are unlocked by achieving a certain skill with a particular rifle, rocket launcher, pistol, or other weapon.

    Award dog tags
These dog tags are unlocked when you receive a certain amount of ribbons or medals, or when you receive a medal for play time or weapon usage.

    Custom dog tags
Battlefield 3: it appears the game will support a new feature where players can customize their dog tags - add signatures, etch their name and display some of their stats

RANKS
Battlefield 3 features an in-depth ranking system that spans over 50 ranks. The ranks start at the Private level and go all the way up to General, which is a level 50, and the highest rank a player can achieve. It is estimated that reaching the General rank will take at least 300 hours of play time.

XBOX 360 VERSION SHIPPED ON 2 DISCS
The Xbox 360 will be split into a singleplayer and multiplayer discs. Which is likely to be the best selling version of the three - pre-orders for the Xbox 360 version are double of what they are for the PS3 counterpart.

BF3 REQUIRES ONLINE PASS FOR CONSOLES
An online pass is usually a code included in the game, and means that players who buy games used will not be able to play online. Instead, they'll have to fork over some cash (usually $5 to $10), in order to play online. This system has been used quite often lately by publishers, in an effort to curb their losses from used game sales.

DICE WONT REST UNTIL BF3 IS UTTERLY POLISHED
In the interview, Gustavsson mentioned how important it is to release a polished game that'll stand the test of time. He said they're in it for the long run, and that "We won't rest until it's utterly polished. You really need to get it solid so that, like Battlefield 2, it's being played [sic] 7 years after release", and "This summer we will play, play, play, be polishing and iterating - it's what makes it rock solid".

BETA STATS

8,125,310 players participated in the beta
    1.5 billion kills
    47 billion shots were fired
21 million M-COM stations were destroyed
19 million dog tags were taken
    ...and more

Troedsson also said that beta players are playing with early game code, which is over a month old since DICE had to submit it to validation at Microsoft and Sony. The main purpose of the beta, he said, was to stress test the game servers. The BF3 beta was 6 times size of Badcompany 2 beta in terms of numbers.

MASSIVE DLC PLANS FOR BF3
Battlefield 3 will be getting a lot of DLC, in fact, 3 times as much as Bad Company 2. Battlefield 3 is DICE and EA's biggest game in a long time, and it's no surprise that they're investing into long-term DLC plans.

BF3 CONFUSION ON BATTLE RECORDER? IS IT COMING AS DLC?
One of the big requests from gamers for Battlefield 3 is the return of BattleRecorder, which was featured in Battlefield 2. BattleRecorder makes it easy to record and play back gameplay, making it ideal for those looking to make videos and Machinima content. It's been uncertain whether we'd see BattleRecorder in Battlefield 3, but there has been some development on that front.

In a recent interview with PixelEnemy, EA's Battlefield Brand Manager Kevin O'Leary let it slip that BattleRecorder would not be returning to Battlefield 3. This stirred a lot of tension in the community, but then DICE community manager Daniel Matros tweeted that this was not the case - the lack of BattleRecorder was dismissed by Matros.

Where does that leave us? Where we pretty much began: BattleRecorder isn't confirmed, but isn't denied either. Seeing as how quickly DICE was to correct O'Leary's statement, and considering how much gamers want BattleRecorder, it's easy to assume that we'll see some form of recording capability in Battlefield 3.

DICE had previously mentioned that they had been using BattleRecorder internally to create the videos and trailers we've seen of Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3. BattleRecorder was a popular feature in BF2 and contributed to a lot of videos, Machinima and other content. With the popularity of YouTube and gaming channels today, BattleRecorder in BF3 would be more than welcome.

DICE NOT TO RELEASE A BATTLEFIELD EVERY YEAR
Unlike some publishers who milk their franchises every year (*cough* Activision/Call of Duty *cough*), DICE is against releasing annual editions of their main Battlefield series, according to DICE's Patrick Bach.

"The business goals for us are not to release a game every year. If we were to release another big Battlefield title next year, that would mean that we'd have less than a year to build it, and that would mean that we'd have to have another studio building it for us, which would mean it wouldn't have that DICE seal of approval, which would mean they'd just have to release a copy of the game we just released."

He pretty much takes a swipe here at Activision and the annual Call of Duty franchise, which has been split between two developers. There has been little to no advancement in the series since the original Modern Warfare was released in 2007. To use Bach's term, it has been "a copy of a copy", without much originality or any new features.

Bach also said that EA would never force DICE to do annual releases, and that such a thing would "dilute the franchise" and eventually kill it. Instead of doing annual releases, DICE is more confident in doing expansion packs, like the recently released (and highly successful) Vietnam expansion to Bad Company 2.
We wholeheartedly agree with Bach's statements. Having an annual Battlefield release - the main series, not BF1943, BF Heroes or BF Play4Free - would dilute the franchise in the same fashion which Activision has diluted Modern Warfare.

MLG ADDS BF3 TO LINE UP
MLG (Major League Gaming), one of the biggest professional gaming leagues in the world, has officially added Battlefield 3 to the list of competitive games. The outfit opened the gates for Battlefield 3 team registration on all three platforms: PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The tournament will be set up in the familiar "ladder" mode, where teams play each other and those at the top of the ladder advance to the playoffs, where, eventually, a winner is crowned. If you're interested, you can register your team here.

The Battlefield 3 MLG roster is limited to 16 players per team, and must have at least 4 members. Matches will be played on best of 3 maps and maps must be selected randomly. Battlefield 2 had a rich history in the competitive gaming world, and was played in many leagues and tournaments all over the globe. With MLG vouching for Battlefield 3 this early, it's a great sign of trust for Battlefield 3 in the tournament world.

BATTLEFIELD WORLDWIDE CONQUEST TOURNAMENT $1.6Million
EA has announced a major online Battlefield 3 tournament called Battlefield Worldwide Conquest Tournament. In partnership with Virgin Gaming, the tournament will be held next year and will offer prizes totaling $1.6 million.
The tournament is for consoles only, which kicks off in early 2012.

Live
CGo Season 1 across all ladders will start on the 10th of November. This means the ladders will go Live (able to challenge or be challenged) at 8pm AEST (NSW, VIC etc) on the 10th of November
You'll be informed of the rules and settings for each ladder prior to this period; during the two week period we've given for ourselves to create the rulesets and stuff around with the game as much as we can!

LADDERS

Conquest 8v8– Conquest is much like Domination in COD; there are a number of areas/flags that need to be held around the map. The more flags you hold the quicker you can win the game! The scoring system works in reverse though; instead of your score counting up until it reaches a limit, teams start with the same amount of points (called tickets). These tickets decrease over time. The rate at which they decrease is dependent on how your team is performing. For instance, if you hold every flag on the map and are devouring the opposition; expect your tickets to decline very slowly meanwhile your opponents will decline rapidly. The team that reaches 0 first is the loser of the match.

Squad Rush – 4v4 Squad Rush is an extremely tight duel between two squads that borrows the main rules from normal Rush, but in a much more intimate setting.

Squad Rush is often favoured by players who know each other's play styles intimately and want to show their skills in the most personal of combat settings.

Turbo XP – This'll essentially be the 8v8 Conquest Ladder in terms of gametype. But, the ranking system will be set to an XP-based system where teams will earn more XP per win based on who they beat (where they are ranked) and how many points are in the ladder in total. The longer the ladder runs the more XP is in the system; and the more you can gain from wins. The Turbo mode will be switched on for this ladder. This means you'll be able to challenge teams in rapid-fire mode. You can challenge up to three teams at once meanwhile you're able to be challenged by another 1 team (4 challenges total) which you can choose to spread out over a week or even a single night! How this works is evident in this ladder: Turbo XP Example Note the amount of matches teams have played (one even played 55 in a month!)

BATTLEFIELD 3 OFFERS MORE THAN CALL OF DUTY
DICE's Patrick Liu said last week that the war of words with Call of Duty was "getting tiring"? Now the very same Liu tells Gamasutra that "it feels good to be compared to Call of Duty", but then he added:
"They're both military shooters, but in terms of flavour and style they're different. But we offer so much more than they do, I think, but that's me."

We can't really disagree with Liu here, Battlefield 3 does have a lot more to offer: larger maps, vehicles, more players, etc. However, we're a bit surprised hat this comes from Liu, considering his previous statements. Liu also added that DICE has a dedicated team whose sole purpose is to support the game after launch, with patches and new content.

MW3 DOESNT USE REAL BULLETS

In the midst of all the rumors, speculations and anticipation up to E3, it's good with a little humor once in a while. A few Battlefield 3 fans went in depth on the new Modern Warfare 3 trailer - and we mean in depth. Apparently, as the screen-cap shows above, Modern Warfare 3 won't use bullets Or maybe it's just that DICE cares more about the details in Battlefield 3.

Perhaps Activision will sell bullets separately in Modern Warfare 3

That was so much I only stopped when I saw a title on something I didn't know about. Hope I didn't miss anything important.

Quote from xAPx SKORPlQN on the 23rd of October 2011:
"With authenticity as a base, you get a natural balance because all real life guns are based on trade-offs. It really pulls out the personality of each weapon system to use the authentic stats and features. Each army selects a different weapon, for a different reason, and we pass those selections on to our players."

Algo, Salt... remember conversations about this?

Hahaha, i ******* told you didn't i...

Yeah man I concur...you were from that opinion I believe, its one of the things I'm most excited about, can't wait for consoles to take another leap forward, so they can continue to refine the feel, animations and player counts
