only thing would be, upgrade to a 560 ti and maybe wait a while for hard drives to drop in price..unless you can't wait

@seraph he had a 550

@spaghetti get a smaller power supply, dont get the led fans, get a less expensive hard drive and then use the money on a 560ti or a 6950.

get a 500gb and the update later that's what i mean. and i'm not saying there is anything wrong with the other items it's just that fans are a bit of a waste of money when you can upgrade the later and put it towards a graphics card- something that you can't upgrade without getting a new one. also he could save a get less watts on the psu- not a saying its a bad power supply.

Speaking from my own experience, I would not go with i5 2500k and go an AMD path it will be much cheaper and you can put the extra money on a better gpu.

not at the moment. It used to be the case. AMD is still cheaper and the performance is really good; but when you consider that the 2500k performs roughly on par with the 2600k and the equivalent AMD processor (which performs not as well by the slightest of margins) costs the same as the 2500k, it's a no brainer.

No doubt, it's served me well but I now feel as though it's money I could've put towards more GPU power.

No he's saying that the equivalent AMD in terms of pricing just isn't as good, so it's a no brainer to go for the 2500k. Even if you go cheaper you're still better off buying an intel anyway.

OP - go with samo's build for sure.

the 2500k is no more expensive than a comparable AMD cpu, and it's more powerful.

also gpu is the fastest component to get outdated, I have never regretted skimping on gpu's
