Team Immunity Interview

Back in BC2 you were captaining Team aK^ and stayed independent despite interest from multi-gaming organisations. What were the reasons behind your change to the Team Immunity brand for Battlefield 3?

Anarchy Krew didn't as such move to Team Immunity. We created our team from scratch when in talks with Team Immunity and came up with a lineup which features a number of aK members and also iM members. In saying that, we have always made these decisions as a team and although we never really felt that any organisations could offer us any real incentive to play for them, when speaking to Team Immunity we felt that they would offer support like no other. After some discussion we decided that we would be very happy to represent Team Immunity in Battlefield 3.

This new team is made up of most of the BC2 aK^ line-up and a number of fresh recruits from different teams and different games. What were the reasons for choosing the current roster?

From BC2 we only had 6-7 players that we wanted to keep. Before BF3 came out we wanted to have around 14 players just in case 12v12 was the more competitive format. Sadact, oxide and myself brainstormed for potential players that we could recruit to fill in our team, based upon past competitive experience, skill, activity and how well they would mix.

Could you give us a quick rundown of the team's roster? (A brief background of each player)

Redding: Been playing battlefield since 1942 (the game not the year). Helped create aK^ back in BFV. All-round player but current role is as chopper/inf.

SadAct: Joined aK^ in BF2 as our professional chopper pilot. SadAct usually leads his own squad and is a dedicated inf player.

oxide: One of the most dominate jet fighters in BF2. His roles carry over to BF3, being our secondary pilot and also one of our tank/APC drivers.

Amril: The superstar TF2 player surprising everyone with his inf abilities in the BC2 comps. His role carries over from BC2 and he is one of the primary inf'ers, although he does help repair our tanks on some maps.

yellow: I first saw yellow in BC2 when he was playing for Team 7 and he did indeed stand out. After playing with yellow in Black Ops I thought his game smarts and ability would be beneficial for our BF3 team. yellow's main role currently is inf.

ilos: Played for TBA in BC2. He is an all-rounder, helping out where he can, whether it's engineering in a Little Bird or playing on the ground as engineer/medic.

Xennore: Was always one of the best pilots in BF2, his skills carried over to BF3. Currently plays as our primary pilot.

Dee: Although this man is from New Zealand and has often been waving the iM flag on the side lines due to his recent uni exams, he is always a strong inf player and has been in any game he has played.

comzat: Has always been a extremely good all-rounder in every game he has played. In BF3 he is focusing on armour and is currently our main tanker.

Katalyst: Has played battlefield for as long as I can remember. All throughout BF2 and BC2 Katalyst was a strong player and this remains true in BF3. His primary role is as inf.

deathdoG: Known for his achievements in CS and for being one of Australia best players. deathdoG continues to shine in BF3, displaying his sharp aim and teamwork skills. His primary role is as inf.

GoGoWaffles: From bR in BF2 and aK^ in BC2, he continues to prove himself. Waffles's primary role is as inf.

Zoltanium: Played BF2 as a general all-rounder with IB and aK^. After taking a break from competitive gaming he is now back for BF3 as a dedicated inf player.

Godless: Started playing online games with BF2, as a specialist infantry player. He joined aK^ for BC2 in the infantry role again. Godless is more of an all-rounder in BF3.

As this is the first major tournament for Battlefield 3 in this region, do you believe it will be important for your team to prepare as much as possible and showcase some good skills to establish yourself as a top team going into the new year?

For any competition we have always ensured that we try our best, which means preparing and practicing as much as possible leading up to the big matches. Being the first competition for Battlefield 3, we want to go into it as strong as possible.

What would you say are the key Battlefield strengths of Team Immunity?

I'd have to say our greatest strength is that all of our players are very skillful in their respective areas and we are also very active allowing us to practice as much as possible.

If you had to name one of your players as an MVP who would it be?

That's a difficult question. All our players excel in their particular roles. Couldn't really pick one player as certain people are better at certain things.

Now that there is a proper scheduled tournament happening, do you believe you will change the way a normal week goes for your team. Will you guys scrim more, prepare specifically for each match, how will you and your team prepare for this tournament?

We'll begin preparing more specifically on individual maps, some more than others, and we will finally get something written down in terms of strats, but otherwise not a whole lot will change. In our scrims we will focus on the map that we are playing in our future matches. Each scrim we try and build on top of the current strategies and change them as new play styles and techniques develop.

With the map pool released, are you and your team confident with the selection of the maps for this tournament?

The map list is pretty diverse. Some maps we are really good on, some not so much. We are confident that we can get to stratting them and improve our overall game, it's going to be challenging but we're looking forward to it.

What do you think are the most important things for your team to do to solidify yourself victories throughout the tournament?

For any team it's usually a balancing act of keeping discipline while maintaining motivation. Finding that balance is key, as well as taking me out of any important game changing roles.

Who do you think will be your biggest opponent in this competition? Are there any rivalries between yourself and other teams?

Our members have a long history in the BF community, and have probably had rivalries with nearly every player and team ever created, especially in our controversial BF2 history. I think it's different now though, as far as I'm aware no rivalries exist. In BC2 we had a few rivalries, mainly with Archaic e-Sports and the then Team Immunity team. Our biggest opponent at the moment is definitely Mindfreak, however there are several teams that really test us, and we are yet to play OGA who are always going to be a top contender.

What are your predictions for this tournament, do you expect there to be any upsets?

I don't know if I'd call them upsets because there is no previous ladders or competitions to judge competing teams on, but I'd say it's very difficult to predict the outcome of a lot of the games. Already in scrims there has been many unexpected winners, and even though they're scrims, they show just how unpredictable the winners are.
My pick for top 3 would have to be Mindfreak, Online Gaming Addicts, and Team Immunity, however I wouldn't be surprised if the final results are completely different. However sqL could pop up in there aswell, but it is really hard to tell. It seems a lot of the team are on the same playing field.

With Team Immunity running and sponsoring this competition, is there added pressure to succeed?

No, the fact that this is an iM run competition doesn't change anything. We aim to succeed in all tournaments or ladders we enter. This is a very short competition and it has some great prizes, I've noticed most of the competing teams have increased the amount of effort they are putting into the game and scrims in general. If this competition improves the competitiveness of the battlefield community in Australia to the point where we can last, then I'd be happy.

How do you guys think you will go in this tournament, what do you expect from you and your team?

To aim for anything short of first position is bad, regardless of who you are. What we expect of each other is to be the most active and skilled team in the competition, which we will continue to work towards for as long it is viable.

Do you think Battlefield 3 has any real future ahead of it in terms of competitive gaming?

I see Battlefield 3 as being in a significantly better state on release for competitive gaming than BC2 was, and that game had several good competitions, however it didn't last very long. BF3 is overall a much better game, and I hope it sticks around. Hopefully there will be more competitions that start up over the holiday break.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I'd just like to thank Team Immunity for making this competition possible. I came to them with an idea and a very short amount of time to work with, and they were more than happy to support the idea. With help from them and our sponsor, SteelSeries, we've been able to create a very good tournament in the shortest amount of time.
