not good news, if intel have no competition, means prices will skyrocket as OP said... and they won't advance as far since there will be nothing to compete with.

This.

This will pretty much give Intel complete control of the high-end CPU market. As already mentioned, that means higher prices and slower advancements in technology because they aren't competing with anyone.

Hopefully AMD don't stop making CPUs completely, or another company buys them out to compete with Intel...

Its been a while coming tbh, intels domination of the market has been growing since the Pentium 4 days, ever since then AMD has not really been a serious competitor in terms of sales performance, if not CPU performance.

so while im not entirely surprised, it is a sad day for us rig builders.

Its also only a matter of time until ATi being owned by AMD as well, goes the same way. These days everyone is all about nvidia and once again AMD is failing to produce anything that will change the shape of that market as well. Having said that ill be buying ATi cards till the day they disappear.

You guys are LOL.

AMD isn't leaving the Desktop market. They're just not focusing on it anymore, and why should they? Obviously they cannot afford to keep rivaling Intel.

I doubt Intel will rise their prices on their products. If they did it will be the most stupidest thing a business can do.

BTW did you know AMD is releasing a re-branded memory line? I ******* lol'd.

Do you know something we don't? Because I know you're not talking about Knight's Corner, which can't be used as a CPU. What processor does Intel have up its sleeve for release in the next 2 years that has 50 cores for the desktop market?

Bugger. I was hoping you had some news about an Intel 50 core CPU, seeing as this is a thread about CPUs and you said Intel has the next best thing
