Alright so here's what I've done. I was trying to show hidden folders in my Users folder in the C drive to try use a World at War config. What happened after i selected show hidden folders it ran a search or something, took about 1 minute to complete and my users folder and everything on my desktop disappeared to another hidden destination far, far, away. I've tried adding things to desktop which isn't working, but I've still got my recycling bin. I've looked inside of it to try and see if my desktop applications/icons where deleted but no luck. I know by creating this post its going to generate a lot of trolls and what not, but at least 1 out of 10 people will post something useful. Thanks if you can help

Its easier for me to ask the community so they can tell me what i need to do precisely, instead of looking through various websites for things to do that may not even be what I'm looking for.

open up folder options and maybe start by restoring defaults you may have selected something you didnt need to although I havent come accross a setting that could do that,
Secondly maybe have a look in c:/users/youruser/desktop see if any of your icons are in there.
Ive never heard of that happening before

If all else fails
create a new profile
1. Right click my computer click manage.
2. Choose local users and groups *
3. go into users, right click add new user.
4. You can figure the next bit out.
5. Add him to the administrators group. by double clicking the new user member of tab and adding administrator to the list.
6. Log out and log in as your new user.

Deleting old profile
7. windows 7
right click my computer properties, Click advanced system settings, Click settings under user profiles.

When you can see your old profile select it and delete it. From now on use your new profile.

If that fails reinstall your OS.
Your lucky I have nothing better to do at work
