Obviously heard good things about the popular AD700, but the DT440 seem to be highly recommended too and don't cost too much more. So if I can get a better set of headphones for not much more I will.

So has anyone had both? If not, any down sides to the DT440 or reasons why they may be worse?
Cheers.

From experience??

There different headsets both recommended by everything that I have read about them.

DT440 likes amplification so if you don't have that go AD700's

(personally i don't like ad700's)

Just throwing another in the mix, does anyone know what Alessandro MS-1s are like? Particularly vs AD700s?

I have a set of MS-1s.

Amazing for Rock music (or similar) decent at gaming but have a semi narrow sound-stage..

Not very comfortable ( as in for long sessions like PC peeps do) but very easy to drive..

To be honest there both a good entry level headphones and will both run great without amplification and will run better with a bit of amplification (but that's where it gets expensive). if you go any more expensive in headphones most require something to drive them (an amp). so i would say if you are looking for something for gaming, music and an overall sound just stick with the ad700s.

AD700s would be better for competitive gaming due to their lighter sound and wider soundstage; it makes positioning and footsteps clearer, and explosions are shorter and sharper. DTs would be better for some kinds of music, like electronic music, due to the harder bass.

Every set of headphones will sound better with amplification...

Some just sounds horrid with out it because they are designed with a low impedance ( AKG K702 etc).

I'm guessing that you can't use a sound card like the Xonar's for an amp?

This im using a STX to power my 770s. i used to have an amp when i listened to music all day and loud but my hearing is somewhat not what it used to be so i stop and found no use for my separate amp because i did not need to go as loud and it sounds mostly the same running only off the sound cards amp. and i sold the external amp

Ive had a Burson HA-160 running it, got it cheap off ebay.

Didnt sound that much better so sold it for a $250 profit.

the only thing i dislike about the ad700s is how they sit on your head- i tried a pair at lan. so if the 440s aren't as good for gaming, is there anything equally as good as the ad700s but fit better?
