I am in the process of trying to host a larger scale lan in my local area, i was planning to finance the venue and some equipment out of my own pocket i.e 20 port switch\

but when i posted about it, all i got was hate, dont host at that venue, host it somewere fancy or what seemed to be a favourite: i'm not coming unless there are prizes.

My question is this: am i expecting to much or did something change in the last few years, what happened to going to a friends house for even some split screen action, pulling all your mates over on a weekend for a lan and pizza?

have i gotten old? or did everyone just get lazy?

i hope that its just me finding these issues :/

The top teams will go if prizes, but you shouldn't have a lot of trouble getting some local players there.

Don't listen to dickheads on the forums... People just want the LAN to be convenient to them and when it's not, abuse follows

but that's the thing, i put my email, my phone number, asked people to pm me, but to no end people just dont seem interested :/

originally it was going to be an xbox 360 thing but they seem to be the worst offenders for being lazy

so I'm thinking of dropping them all together and starting a pc LAN

my reasoning for starting an xbox LAN in the first place was that it would be easier to network as i dont have much experience with networking and most venues do not allow the use of there internet connection which means half the popular steam games wont work

was meant to be in the raymond terrace bowling club board room as it was cheap and easy to find and all the tables and chairs are supplied.

there is a maccas and a pizza shop near bye too which is a bonus

raymond terrace is in the hunter newcastle region in the state New south Wales in the country australia

being an australian site i figured the country was at least a given, and raymond terrace is quite well know in new south wales as it is a choke point for access for large cattle trucks and a majority of the mines in new south wales

You cannot blame the community for this.
The community is actually quite good.. For example, SGL, Respawn, Reloaded, GGF, RFlan all examples of 100+ player lans held in major citiies.
The community is good.
Whether you have the skills to motivate the community, is entirely another question.

Bob, to be honest, those LANs are already established with a large player base,
I know what its like to try and start a new one, prizes can be hard because, well we dont have money to use from previous lans to fund anything, its all coming out of our pockets, when all of those LANs started im assuming the community was slightly smaller and more tight knit than it is today, what are we up to 140,000 members?

And you cant say the community isnt pretentious and unforgiving, cause they bloody well are.

all of those lans are in other states, except for the ones in sydney and wollongong

oh and the central coast

and bob if you think you can do a better job than please do, the only reason i am trying to get this off the ground is because there nothing else like this on a regular basis in the newcaslte hunter region
