widescreen into 4:3 resolution

hi iv always just had a black desktop and played r_fullscreen 0 with mode 7 on my widescreen so i have a low non streched resolution.
can anybody help me in being able to play a low 4:3 resolution like 800x600 not all streched in fullscreen?
i run xp, nvidea gt 8500, widescreen 1440x900.
