has there been any word on when private servers are coming out?
I've read up on this topic for quite a while now and by the looks of it DICE won't be making private servers available to people. They believe that the past BF games were a success because there weren't any private servers, and only dedicated EA servers. If they do decide to make private available to the public it will be a long time from now, because they believe their game is running well and don't want to handle the mess of setting this new system up. I hope I've answered your question well enough.
wow

so i can sell my game now?

Not necessarily because there still is a chance of there being private servers, but we don't know when. I believe they will release the private servers to the public after the Virgin Gaming tournament is complete. Only DICE knows the answers to all our questions.

There will need to be private servers as it will go hand in hand with the linkup private servers they will need to play MLG. MLG has been on DICEs case askign them when the private servers be ready as they want the BF3 MLG comp to go live, DICE said at the latest it would be February or March.

They had private servers in BFBC2.. I'm pretty sure they have had them in other previous titles too, Salt would know.

Yeah they had private servers AND dedicated clan support - as in set up team, invite/remove players and challenge other teams as well as a challenge lobby and leaderboards all back on the OG xbox!!!! they ported this functionality over to the 360 when they ported BF2MC - we were playing 10 clan matches a day!!

Miss it so much...

BFBC1 didn't have them - BFBC2 did - BFBC2 had much more life and hardcore support. They'd be crazy not to include this considering how they want to take a slice off COD series. If they drop the ball on this one - there will be plenty of unhappy consolers BF'ers around.

I think AZ is on the money....

Out of interest I played scrim today 12 v 12 in public server - it works fine.

As mentioned a couple of randoms join - all ya do is let one team kick the other teams arse - as in one team doesn't come out of their base. The randoms soon leave.

So looking towards any teams / players who are keen so we can get one sorted - I think about this time 8-9pm EST in the evenings would be great. Will speak directly to some captains try and get one sorted.

I think between, me, az and tails and regular posters we can get a PUG sorted out - was waiting for the NYE hol period to settle down first - so looking to next week!

Fail idea though your meaning is good. The fact is not all teams would be able to fill both sides and you would have no way of keeping randoms out. Good thought, just not thought through

I don't really think I would be interested in having randoms in the game so I would only settle with it if both team had 12 players ready to go. I don't think the BF community will stop asking for private servers so I'm sure they will come eventually.
