Awhile ago out of no where my mouse started just randomly cutting out ingame, i never thought much of it at the time as it wasn't that often. The problem gradually got worse and worse and eventually to the point it's basically unplayable.

Start of the problem you get the windows noise that a device has been unplugged, followed by a major lagspike that basically looks like the screen has frozen, then once the device gets reconnected without me moving cables or anything the lagspike finishes and the mouse comes back to life. The problem only used to occur in CoD4, but as i let it go the problem got worse and worse and now it even happens on my desktop.

The mouse was a Logitech G9 not the G9x, i've tried different usb ports, i've unistalled the generic windows mouse driver without setpoint being installed, re-installed new windows mouse drivers, updated them, installed setpoint, removed all windows drivers and used setpoint only for the logitech drivers. Changed mouse from a G9 to a steelseries kinzu. also tried a random wireless mouse that was new, and also a cheap $20 generic logitech mouse the problem has been consistent with each mouse starts out the same not so often then just get worse and worse. I've gone into computer management and unticked the box in the usb bus to remove permissions to turn off the product when there is insufficient power. I've done endless googling on this situation and i've tried everything people have said that worked for them or should work and nothing has fixed this problem it's really starting to drive me insane playing any game is basically impossible.

Computer specs
AMD 640 - @ stock 3.ghz
Mobo - Asus M2N68-VM
Ram - 800 mhz 4gig g-skill
Mouse - Logitech G9, Steelseries kinzu , random wireless thing, standard logitech optical mouse.
Video card - HD 5770

I've updated all my drivers for everything in hope something would fix it even though hardly of it was related, not sure what caused the problem to start the G9 is a bit old but i figured that the cable may have been damaged it seems to work fine on my laptop and the other mouses i baught as a cheap replacement to see if it was the mouse but that wasn't the case.

If you have any idea on what the problem could be or a solution for me to try i'm keen to hear it.
if you need more information post in the thread or add me on xfire - sharpy009

I've had mouse problems before. Most of the time it's an issue with the mouse, however sometimes the USB ports themselves can be the issue.

Have you tried any other USB devices (other than mouse) in the USB ports? If you have similar problems, your USB ports may be stuffed.

update :

had this strange idea to plug the mouse in and jerk the cord around near where it joins with the mouse to see if i could force the drop out but nothing happened.
even jerking the cable out near the usb port still gave no response so if the cords damaged in the middle would there be anyway to find out with out breaking the braided cover?

i don't think the mouse is broken as other mouses do the same i'm stumped for idea's and i'm getting sick of trying things to have no luck.

EDIT!!
After randomly flashing my bios and remove the battery on the motherboard and replacing it i've gotten 3 maps of cod4 out of the way without a dropout so it seems like it's fixed.

it's the only other thing left and removing the battery and flashing bios fixes sooo many random problems it's really strange but almost 2 hours without a dropout when i used to get atleast 2 every 5 minutes so it's looking good.

I have had logitech mice for a while now. Get rid of them. They are ******* useless and are behind in performance compared to other mice. Out of the 4 years I've been using them every single one has had the same problem, crashes mid game then starts back up to crash yet again. It's a problem all logitech mice have. There is no point in buying a new logitech mouse or getting the same model thinking "it's a one off faulty mouse", it's the mistake I've made and it's a ******* dumb one. I suggest a Razer Deathadder V2 much better than most mice.

I've got a G15 keyboard and G35's and they work fine and have for a long time. The problem, I've been told, with the mice lies in the wiring. Just get a new mouse or you'll facepalm everytime it happens with a new logitech mouse.

The mouse has been fantastic and if you had read the initial post i didn't go out and buy another G9 to replace the G9, i baught a steelseries mouse so a different brand all together and had the same problems.

i flashed the bios and the problem has gone away.

it is now SOLVED. played 2 and a half hours of gaming and there hasn't even been a slight skip in the mouse so my G9 that was baught the very day they were in shops lives on! the amount of use this mouse has had i'm impressed and i would buy another.

So you're still having the same problem with a brand new mouse?
If the problem still lies with the G9 most likely the cable has frayed or snapped causing random disconnects/reconnects.
