The Venus Project
to get you guys and girls thinking, here is something I wrote about an idea that has really grabbed my attention in the past few months. if you have read this thread
http://www.cybergamer.com.au/forums/thread/p5469868#5469868 it will make thistopic a little clearer. as I consider this the solution to said problem. this is actually just a brief summary despite the length. I have much more to say on the matter if anyone has any questions at all
Introduction
The Venus Project is basically a new way of life, nothing like anything humanity has seen. It takes a simple goal, which is for humanity to SURVIVE as healthy, and as optimally as possible, with the WHOLE world being equal and given the same quality of life. This world would be completely united, there would be no boarders, no governments and most of all, no money at all, for these are unnecessary and improve our lives in no way what so ever.

Lets think about what has actually improved our lives? Governments? All politics do is pass laws and wage war. Religion? While religion is nice and gives solace to those who need it, it doesn't really have EVERYONES best interest at heart. What has actually improved humanity's quality of life is technology. Technology is a pencil, glasses for the visually impaired, hearing aids, medicine, stoves, tools, computers, everything man has invented is, technology. So to lead the Venus project, we will use science. Because "unlike religion and politics, science has no ego" and everything that it comes up with is by default, falsifiable. Meaning it is constantly evolving and improving, taking no pride in being proven wrong.
How will it actually work?
The Venus project fully embraces technology and harness's its full potential. With the absence of money, funding for this technology is irrelevant. Here's how society would work. With just the technology we have today, machines could replace 97% of the workforce if we allow it to (keep in mind that without politics or money any jobs relating to these fields will be non-existent). This will mean only 3% of the world will even need to do any work. But before we go any further, what kind of work will this be? This will only be jobs machines can't do which is everything that involves creativity and imagination. Art is one of the best examples. Jobs like Scientists, doctors and technicians will still be needed to invent and maintain technologies as well. Although there is no money to pay these people, it just so happens that these are the kind of jobs people do out of PASSION and love of their work, NOT for money. Take great inventors like Thomas Edison and the write brothers for example. These people and many like them made massive contributions to the world we live in today, but they did not do it for financial gain. In fact they did a lot of their work at a financial loss, funding many of their projects themselves. It is the only the boring mundane and labor intense jobs that people do for a money incentive. And these will become obsolete.
Not to mention that in a world that...truly looks after you and the whole world as one. Where everything you need and want is readily available. Where there is no war, no greed, complete social equality and absolutely minimal crime. I guarantee you people will volunteer their time. I for one ******* would. Would you?
Global resource management system
Then we go onto sustainability, again technology will be the answer. The technology ALREADY exists for what will be called a 'global resource management system' which will locate and record all of the worlds available resources and where they are and how much of it. This includes everything from how many fish are in the ocean, how much raw material is in the ground. To how much fresh water there is. It will then keep track of the rate of use and renewal of these resources. Unfortunately today this technology is used by privatized companies for profit rather than world benefit and management. We would also need to fully harness the potential of renewable energy. such as wind, solar and geothermal.again these all already exist and have more than the potential to physically replace fossil fuels. The only reason this is not being done is because in the monetary world we live in today, it could not be done without massive financial loss. Which is why this system NEEDS to change.
Global products center
so I have mentioned alot that people will have everything they want and need readily available, take note I say 'readily available' personalization and 'ownership' is an ideal that is not particularly necessary, i.e it isn't necessary that we all need one of everything.
so, to put it simply, world wide surveys will be taken to access the needs of everyone in a particular city, and products will be given on the basis of demand, and further more, usage. note that the supply and demand system is nothing new to society today. so things like a tv, a couch, a refrigerator, a car, yes one would be given to everyone. things like an xbox probably yes, if it is determined that you spend 'x' amount of time on your xbox a day or week, then you will be given an xbox. things like say a luxury tent? do we one of these each? probably not, as most people may go camping once or twice a year. So. as people all go camping at different times of the year, for only a small amount of time, each city will have what is referred to as a 'global products center' which is basically a giant library for all products that people will be able to check in and out as they use them. this system is the most logical, and most importantly sustainable way of utilizing the worlds resources to make products that allow everyone to have the same standard of living.
Conclusion
There have been many political philosophy's that have been our ways of life. Communism, capitalism, socialism, fascism. But none of these ideology's were ever based of the fact that our worlds resources are finite, and they are all lead by corruptable governments, men who do not accept when they are wrong, and are not open to change. Before you add any 'ism' there are very simple HUMAN needs and values. The Venus project is unbiased, ever improving and there is complete global equality. It is the end of world 'privatization' and so global recourses will be in abundance like we have never seen before. It is the core essence of unity and oneness and will result in a joy the world has never know. No one will live with the pressures of life that lead to violence and negative social behavior. There will be no poverty. The only hard part....is change.
