In reply to your commentary - there are rumours private servers for public FREE might happen after the $1.6mill tournament. If they dont arrive then ignore the crap about not being able to implement them with Battlelogs, the real reason would be that they would be releasing a BF4 within 12mths (thats my guess) and they dont want their resources stretched over 2 games, especially one that has stopped making them money
Its a strong possiblity for the diss on private servers in my opinion, much like Badcompany 1 never saw them either.....they had longer multi game strategy in mind. This is very similar in many ways.
My second guess would be they are trying to move towards paid private servers which might be a massive shock to the BF console community and fully aware of the PR problem/nightmare/implications of introducing such measures considering half their sales pitch was that you didn't have to pay for Battlelog support etc like MW3 elite was going to be marketed.
How do we fix that white elephant? Well we just dont give them any!!! let them make the connection whether its good or bad themselves - after being starved of competitive functionality even the paid option would seem a blessing.
They're my theories at least - hopefully proved wrong - especially considering all the claims of BF3 going to be the most supported BF of them all with 7 times DLC and so on - by not including private servers you aren't supporting anyone
Actually I have a third conspiracy hahaha - maybe they will release a BF every 2 years as they said they would and not annually? thereby introducing all the DLC they want to flesh the game out with and get that nailed first
BF3 in 9-12mths time will be cheaper FPS option, I don't see MW3 having that lasting appeal except to the hardcore? (just a guess) so being able to release private servers might be a reason for competitive gamers to give it a crack especially if there is a big annoucement, obviously its a massive topic/subject with many as is
- not only would it breed new life into the game for the faithful, but also attract the new or those willing to give it a crack competitively!??
Especially if its discounted and what $$$ they lost on a reduced title could be made up in the form of DLC purchases? Even then any new sales that late into a release are good sales
I call this its not how you start the race but how you finish conspiracy hahahaha
