It's about diet, do exercise daily not fortnightly.
exercising daily is idiotic, you need at least 1 rest day per week.

I'm going to get into outdoor again this year and i'll continue to hit the gym a few times a week plus indoor once a week until then.. and then training twice a week/indoor once a week/outdoor game on the weekend should do me during the season.

I play rugby league and do Muay Thai for sports for the seasons.

Rugby is hard , 2 weeks after the season started we already started doing cardio training 3 times a week , with beach runs every sunday. Beach runs consists of 10km run ( No stopping ) up and down this beach , then we sprint down 20m into the beach then sprint back up a 20m sand dune , then when do life guard training and games.

For field training we do heavy cardio , which is all about us not stopping , we drag tackle bags and tyres across the field and back then we do laps in a certain time. Then all the tackling drills non stop really takes everything out of you. But you always feel good when you finish a training session.

Muay Thai is probably a bit easier but when we have a cardio session its probably one of the hardest times of my life , we have to do pyramid upto 20 kicks , then 2 minutes of jabs , 2 minutes of uppercuts , 2 minutes of hooks , 2 minutes of elbows and 2 minutes of hard fast knee's. Only getting 30 second brakes inbetween.

My routine is :

Monday : Rugby
Tuesday : Muay Thai
Wednesday : Rugby
Thursday : Muay Thai
Friday : Resting day
Saturday : Game day when season is on
Sunday : Beach session

We normally do a lot of beach work during the pre-season doing things like runs, stairs, beach running ect.
I only train twice a week for footy but I play cricket in the off as well so that keeps me moderately fit and busy.

We train with the seniors who have a new ex-AFL player as a coach this season. His approach is to build to up cardio and general fitness slowly while throwing in a bit of ball skills at the end of every session.

Walk up and down the pool continuously.
Go to the gym and use the machines that help build your quads
Don't hold back, always go hard out at training. Being sore the next day is good!

I'm a personal trainer, that used to play age group international football both indoor and normal.

My training was:

4 Practices per week (1.5hours)
4 Gym workouts per week (1 Hour)
1 Swim session per week (1.5 hour)
and in season after game hot cold treatments. (ice bath to warm shower).

If you like PM exactly what your training for and i can do you up a training schedule.

BOL for your training
