Ok, so basically I'm moving in to a new place with the gf start of feb and the landlord is cool with pets. Been dying to get a puppy for ages but need some suggestions. I've always wanted a husky but after hours of research, turns out they're probably the worst breed I could choose, considering I'll have no backyard and it'll be home alone for up to 8 hours, 4 times a week.

So if you're one of those freaks who knows everything about every dog, or had personal experience please post some breeds to look into.

Before you post, take the following shit into account;

No backyard

Prefer medium-large size

Amount of exercise required is not an issue, go for a run every morning and night anyway

Can handle being alone for a while

Not too loud

Cheers.

Rottweiler's are good, if you train them from a young age.

A dog that needs a high level of activity needs more than just going with you on your run.

If you don't think you'll be able to take a medium-large dog for an hour session or so every day of the week outside of your own activity and more on the weekend, get a small dog.

german shepards are the sickest breed on earth but if you dont have a backyard and they are required to stay alone in the house not a good idea.

St Bernards and great Danes are very good house pets which are very calm dogs that can be left alone and can live without having a backyard. Both breeds are considered as apartment dogs so they are pretty quite

My personal pick, aslong as you can really let it exercise it; 1hour+.

Bottom of the page has a list of dog breeds, have a look through.

True, i forgot to add that cost, but yeah i used to own a Labrador; expensive at the VET although i didn't pay.

Depends you financial status and everything for labradors especially exercise and activity.

well u have no backyard so medium to large breeds need there space
unless your really willing to walk them everyday/exercise
also the home alone thing is sorta a issue
try considering like a staffy maybe? or a smaller breed

English Bull Terrier

Should suit you fine, apart from they tend to be a little bit destructive when left alone...

I gotta be honest. no backyard for a large dog is just not a good thing. he will get frustuated a fair bit. perhaps start your dog loving career with a small breed like a beagle or something. iif not i would say get a labarador, they still shed a lot of hair but not as much as a golden retreiver which would be my other option specially if this is your first pet. 90 mins of running/walking is enough for a labrador + he will have a lot of human attention as a indoor dog. male labs tend to be a bit mischief compared to females so just keep that in mind.

ok just read some of the other replys. do not get a boxer, its torture to have them indoors, i do not recommend a German shepherd, rotties,st bernards for 1st time dog owners specially indoors. my most extreme pick would be a irish wolfhound they will actually do well indoors but then again you need to be more confident than b1llothy with such a large dog and good luck finding 1.

other recommendation for your requirements-
border collie ( needs exercise and mental stimulation but does adapt easily)
doberman ( not a 100 % but i can see him fitting in, needs obedience training )
great dane- ( same issues as irish wouldhound except less hair shedding and a bit more gentle once they grow up)
Dalmation- loud bark but could do well

I highly suggest doing some reading up on st bernards and bernese mountain dogs. probably the ideal dog for your situation

have witnessed one living in a house with a tiny backyard. it was clean, friendly and the house didnt stink of dog whatsoever.
