Statistically, the other team gets shit dumps just as often as you do, you just put it down to you being good when you beat them and put it down to them being bad when you lose with them.
Exactly so the only way you can truely advance if with a decent team, because if you solo then you get good teams 50% and bad 50% so everyone would stay at 1500. I never said it was was down to me being good when i win and them being bad when we lose, i know when i play shit and i know when i play well. Also if your sitting on 1400 like i am, more often than not the teams are bad rather than good.

So will the other team.

Assuming you're good, 4 bads + 1 good should beat 5 bads no?

I understand its difficult to gather a competitive understanding of the game when you're playing pub games at that 1500 level and yes your progress would be greatly improved if you were to play with a higher level team but everyone started out like you. Sitting in the 1500 bracket, playing games for the sake of playing games winning and losing in equality.

Its almost necessary for you to build up your understanding of the game from that though, youll be a better player for it. If you hopped right into the 1700+ competitive side of things after struggling in the lower brackets you would only get frustrated. Your game mechanics would be subpar, you wouldnt have the required understanding of every (or almost) hero in the game and your understanding of player psychology would be limited to your 1500 pub standard, It might be harsh but honestly, you would be a liability.

I understand that there have been recent casts done of some aussie competitive games, watch those and watch your understanding grow. Vent casts are even better and you can find everything here. These boys from Sequential Gaming have had some games recently casted, i'de suggest giving them a look. Appart from that, if you have any higher level friends you could take advantage of the new coaching feature in-game.

Hope it works out for you man.

Depending on which role you are wishing to play competitively it may be harder. Example if you wish to play support then trying to support in pubs is almost impossible, but if your trying to get good playing solo then its much easier etc. Try finding a team or group of friends to play with if support is where you want to work at,but its kinda easy to just solo que and call mid from the start. Anyway gl

There are 5 pubs on the enemy team, and 4 pubs on yours. If you assume there are n bad players in the game, you will have, on average, 4n/9 bad players on your team and 5n/9 bad players on the enemy team. The bad players are statistically more likely to be on the enemy team.

Q.E.D., get good.

You are of course assuming that the player in question is not-bad.

Also, don't expect to get 'good' playing Aus public games anymore.

Strong mathematical analysis going up in here.

So you want to improve, a better mindset than most. Here's a few habits you might want to get into that aren't already mentioned in this thread:

1. Thinking of Efficiency: HoN by its very own nature is competitive. Therefore, you need to outfarm, outlevel and outplay your opponents to increase your odds of winning. Efficiency is generally measured in gold per minute and experience per minute (especially true for carries) so it would be wise to try to maximize those. Whenever, you're in a game just think to yourself, how can I be getting more gold and experience?

2. Conceptualize: In other words, think ahead and see situations occurring before they happen. That way you can react to them before they happen. This goes all the way down from moving away from allies before Hammerstorm throws his blink + stun to monitoring the damage done by creeps and enemy last hitting patterns to perform better in lane.

3. Picking Appropriately: Some games (especially in pubs), you are going to need to play support. and other times you're the one carrying. You need to assess where you are in the team and the hero roles that you can play best. Hero picks can make or break games so choose wisely!

4. Communicate! This is something you won't get from replays. You're going to need a microphone if you don't already have one if you want to be competitive. If you're losing your lane, say so. If you reckon you can get a kill off, let your friend know. If someone goes missing from your lane, let people know. If you're not ready to push, tell your allies. You get the idea.

There's a whole lot more than that but this should be more than enough to dumpster pubs. Remember that everyone above 1700 has to win with multiple bad players on their team, so if they can do it, so can you.
Best of luck!
